Layout design
Which is more portable? 4x6 vs. 2x8
Which size is more portable/transportable? A 2x8, or a 4x6?
Which size is easier to move?
I'm trying to decide what size my future layout should be.
Is my Yard workable? I've made some changes.
I'm starting on laying my yard and was wondering if it is the best for the space I have assigned to it.
Intentionally creating conflicting train movements for operators during operation
Intentionally creating conflicting train movements for operators during operation.
It was pointed out my layout is not set up logically, Why is the Top most part of the layout mostly run out of Old Pueblo Yard on the lower section of the layout? Why do you run most of the upper part of your layout from the yard on the bottom level of the layout?
Your Layout is point to point, would it not be better to run all the upper area as one section and the lower area as another section?
Rise and Run Calculations
Building a small Mom and Pop coal distributor and need a ramp up to 9 scale feet. So in doing the calculations for the grade up to the 9 foot deck I came across a % grade calculator.
Rise over Run to Percent Calculator - Inch Calculator
Any way on with my question is 5% too much for a coal dump?
To obtain a 3% grade i will need 300 scale feet in HO. 200 ft is 4.5%.
Shelf Layout Update - Simplifying the Simple
Thought there might be some folks out there interested in an update from Alco-land.
I know small and simple layouts aren't everyone's cup of tea, but it's how I enjoy our fun hobby...especially now that my current free time is VERY limited. Details and pics to follow below...
Creating my module with your help.
Good morning all,
Here is one of those questions with no Yes or No, or no right or wrong answer. Just a food for thought post.
I am dipping my toe into HO. While I have a major N scale project underway. I know this is not the best thing to do, but that nagging voice just will not go away with HO and the idea to model something completely different.
So toss in you vote, to sorta make this like a poll put your vote in the subject line of your reply..
BN 8th Sub (Issaquah Branch) 1/29 Scale (Outdoors)
I've never taken the time to draw up a track plan for the layout, but I finally sat down and drew up a track plan of the layout I'm building. Details to follow in next post to keep the lead post clean.
layout options
I have a small switching shelf layout in a room that I have not come very far on and I am thinking about starting over because I rarely mess with it and realized that I don't have much interest in operations and want to build something with a continuous run that I would get more enjoyment out of. Could someone suggest small layouts that would be a good starting point for a person that mainly likes watching trains run with a little operation on the side as well.
O and HO in same area
I just retired and now want to build some model train layouts. I have acquired both O and HO Loco's, rolling stock, track and scenery and see merit to both. I have a layout base completed as shown below. Each leg of horseshoe is 4ft by 16 ft with 4ft by 4ft connecting each leg at end. Plan using insde the shoe fir control stations.
Need advice from experienced modelers on having O and HO coexisting. Would it be too conflicting, should I divide with diorama mountain range with tunnel for each? Should HO have 4x16 vice 4x8?
