Layout design
Did you really Finish the layout?
Did you really finish the layout?
A few months ago I wrote that I almost finish my 8X4 layout, but did I really finish?
My answer is no….. What is yours?
I began to run my trains and I realize that I need some improvements, also I began some restauration projects, weathering cars, upgrade old locos, and more
Yard adjacent to Staging vs Yard at a half-way point, and railroad direction?
I'd like to have discussion about the impact of positioning of my main yard in the overall diagram of traffic. I'll use my existing plan for a visual reference:
Modelling Track - Weathering
Just putting up some of my track samples. Trying to find 3-4 good track formulas. I'm using Valjero pigments, paints Airbrushing doing dry brushing and Washes. Its getting confusing to what looks right and looks good and sort of prototype looking where it of course doesn't look too …well you know ...too educational.
Narrow gauge modelling using OO/HO track (16.5 mm gauge).
Hi all,
Previously in https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/34608?page=5#new
Dave B asked
For those who might be considering a narrow gauge layout based on HO gauge track what are the pros and cons of 1/55 scale 3 foot ,1/64 3.5 ft ,and 1/72 3.9 ft modeling? I guess one could add 1/36 scale 2 foot gauge to the possibilities?....
Colorado Front Range HO scale - October 2018 Update

Middle School Model Railroad: the Day Branch
I’m looking for feedback on this plan for the terminus of an agricultural branch line on the freelance HO layout I’m building in a middle school classroom with my students. The period and region are not precise, but a 1930s flavor is intended with a theme of reefers and produce packing sheds.
Analysis Paralysis
My interests are many. I dabble in R/C airplanes, 1:48 plastic model airplanes, photography, model rockets, motorcycles, and HO trains. Like others, my time and money are limited. I'm prone to starts and stops that leave several projects unfinished.
The ANYWHERE Limited Layout
Having submitted a few ideas in the past I had to take everyone’s knowledgeable input and leverage some strong thinking ( yeah I know the smell of burned rubber is pungent ) into the less is more concept and looking at space and time constraints and how to fit this into my current work schedule.
Hump Yard Design And Operation
Everyone:
Except for the hump yard on the original Chicago Museum of Science and Industry(O Scale) and Allen McClellands' original V&O layout, has there ever been any other working HO Scale hump yards of note? If you were going to build a working hump yard, how long would you make your bowl tracks? What about the grade of the hump hill? How many classification tracks? Speed limiters(retarders)? Equipment that doesn't roll well or roll too well?
