Well I finally began working on scenery in an attempt to eliminate the plywood prairie look. I am a bit old school in that I like to use cardboard webbing as my terrain substructure with a cheesecloth and plaster covering to complete the base for the overall structure.  This video shows a portion of what has been done so far.

Nice Job

Hi Jeff,

I have used the same technique to create the cardboard webbing that you have used in your picture and it is just as effective as tacky glue or hot glue and even probably less messy.

Cheesecloth, but of course!

Thanks for the idea of using cheesecloth

I have been holding off slinging plaster because I don't know what it will look like over the cardboard forms.  And wet plaster cloth sags.

Dry cheesecloth over the cardboard webbing will show the general form and reveal where the hills need to be pushed in or filled out.  Nifty.

I Agree

Doug,

My wife sews a lot so she was able to find a lot of cheesecloth at a very reasonable price from one of the online material stores that she frequents.
