Layout design
Plan check 2.2
Thank you for the feedback! After mulling over your ideas I decided to get rid of the return loops and go twice around the room. So here are more details
HO scale std gauge
California/Nevada desert / mountain mining shortline, late 1950's steam
2%-2.5% grade
Short trains 6-8(10?) cars
Original idea for branch( based on Tecopa Railroad). 4% - 7% grade-push empties up, back loads down
Not sure of extending branch to yard, I don't want 3 tracks under window
Longer sidings with multiple industries
A Place....
I am struggling with the attachment process currently but have decided some difficult choices and wanted to put them down in writing.
The section known as David's siding was once two different scenes but has now been combined into a passing siding running the full scene with a small yard used to cut off/add to trains per capacity. This section will be at the base of the grade at Old Fort Loops in the garage area.
Subject has changed to - Pocket change? For Car Weights
Not sure how this turned into a post on car weights.
Deleted original subject on easy track powering in a non switched location, and replaced it with Pocket change? For Car Weights
Pocket change? For Car Weights?
If you are still interested on automated powering of your track in a non switched very hard to reach location let me know or start your own blog.
Trying to locate ON30 Layout
Hi Gang,
I just registered here and am trying to locate the owner/builder of the attached On30 mini layout that I found on a Pinterest site. It links to MRH but I haven't had any success searching.
Thanks in advance!

How to add stay-alive caps to Bachmann On30 Porter?
Has anyone put a commercial stay-alive capacitor system in the cab of a Bachmann On30 Porter?
I really want to keep the short length of the Porter and not add a tender. I am trying to avoid building a cap system from scratch. The current cab is very open, I could close it up to hide a cap system.
Ontario South Central sorted
I previoulsy posted about yet another move to Toronto with my portable Ontario South Central. This is now the 4th location. If you follow my blogs I wrote about a small switching layout that fits into a Condo living space satisfying the missus.
Well, we've broken up, and I had to move to the burbs and had my layout in a room in a town house.
A Place I Will Likely Not Get To...
So.... a most happy coincidence. A national train magazine has a cover story of the NS Loops in western North Carolina. Must consider additional layout framing. Old Fort Loops.
A Place I Will Likely Not Get To...
So...the comparing of the various options make it obvious that the Option 2 site is the only one even remotely able to suggest what the photos sent in show. But a bit much of a project for the current budget both in time and resources. But more interested than ever. Send more please! Was there a siding between the two tunnels?
Plan check
Here is my latest idea-
California/Nevada desert shortline, late 1950's steam
Preferences,
Single operator
Continuous running
2% - 2.5% grade
Opportunities for switching
Tunnel - for my grandson
Any suggestions?
Dream and Design
I want to model the Burlington Northern branch line between Hillyard and Kettle Falls in the early 70s. My goal is for the model to eventually both look and operate like the prototype.
Others might model this branch line differently. I like yard operations so Kettle Falls yard was a requirement. I also like: the feeling the train is going someplace, heavy industry and branch line switching. My choices reflect my preferences.
