Trackplan 'Lodores'

Hello everybody,

I have starting my home layout 'Lodores & Silvertown' in HOn3 (23' x 10'). The layout is a freelance design of an  RGS branch line in the Rocky mountains.
I have created a blog, showing the construction progress of the layout:

Update: VIA Rail Yard and Shops -Trenton Subdivision in N Scale

I have been working on the VIA Rail yard and shops lately.  Here are some preliminary photos of the area, taken with a cell phone to check for details.  Once complete I will photograph again with a better camera and a backdrop.

Height Options on a second deck....

Hi and Happy New Year ( almost )
I am at a key juncture in the new layout construction.
The height of the upper deck.
Right now top of track level is 42" main deck....62" upper
I am debating lowering the upper deck to 60". basically lowering it 2".
This would give me 14.5" of lower deck clearance for scenery and such.
While it seems like a small change ( depending on your height and reach) it seems to perhaps look better from an operating stand point.

Logging switching module

I am starting to design a switching shelf layout for my West Side Lumber Shays. I have a spot in my garage that is 16 feet long and 3 to 4 feet wide. I am re-using some old frames, I have two modules that are 3x6 feet and one is 4x4 feet.

On the left I was going to have a small saw mill and pond, in the center a small yard and in the back a logging camp on the upper right.

The nice thing about shays is that they run real slow, so it makes the layout appear bigger than it is.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks Bill.

To venture outside or not

Hi,

I am considering an idea, and wanted to seek some thoughts out. I am having a new layout done for the Ontario Eastern in a 20 x 20 ft room or 20 x 30ft room, and considering doing a small part outside, in the outdoors.  I am HO scale, and this would likely be a seasonal thing only, but wondering what people think or if anyone does this, what are pros and cons...

Relocating Watersmeet Engine Terminal on the CNW

I am starting this thread to show the relocation process I took to revise and relocate the Engine Terminal at Watersmeet, MI on my CNW Peninsula Div. HO scale railroad. The first series of photos is of the Terminal as it was currently located. Also in these photos is the Watersmeet branch line trackage and some industries. (to be removed)

Car Wash on the Trenton Subdivision in N Scale

I have completed some more work on the car wash in the VIA Rail Yard.

I posted an earlier blog as I was constructing the car wash. I have replaced the black plastic tubes that came with the kit with pipe cleaners and scratch built a base from 1mm styrene. Adding railings, grating and a chemical tank from other kits.

New US Historical Map Tool

The USGS and esri have released a new map tool / site for finding and downloading US Historical maps. Finding relevant maps on this site is definitely simpler than using the search options on the Historical Maps site. Point, click and scroll operations allow one to find, identify (by date and scale) and display relevant maps.
