I am starting this thread to show the relocation process I took to revise and relocate the Engine Terminal at Watersmeet, MI on my CNW Peninsula Div. HO scale railroad. The first series of photos is of the Terminal as it was currently located. Also in these photos is the Watersmeet branch line trackage and some industries. (to be removed)PC102109.JPG

Down to the base frame. This is my "0" datum line for the entire layout and everything goes up from here on various heights of risers. NOTE: All bench work is 3/4" cabinet grade plywood.PC132129.JPG

Here are the risers that will be used to raise the new deck to the proper hieghtPC132131.JPG

Now you may be wondering why all of this happened. Well I haven't been real happy with the current design and location from the the beginning as it was a hard area to get at for operations, but it was what it was. Well at my last OPS session this month the guys got to talking about the problem and we tossed around some ideas and the following Saturday I began work on the revision. The whole Engine Terminal will now be out at the front of the layout and much easier to get at. My plan for the old terminal area is for it to become a town with a couple of small industries out close to the edge of the layout in this area.

More to follow.

Dick,  this looks like a lot

Dick,  this looks like a lot of work.  Are you going to change the benchwork area or keep it to the same basic size?

Relocating the Watersmeet Engine Terminal - CNW

Doug: This was not really a lot of work only took 3 days of accumulated hours spread out over a week to get here, but there are still more pictures to post which will show where I am right now, which is ready to layout the various other structures that are going to be reinstalled also one new building which is the Walthers Machine Shop and lay the turnouts and track.

And no I am not going to change the bench work, except that I did add an additional 10" wide section at the end of the peninsula as shown in the last photo just below the risers.

Love That Backdrop

Richard,

not to detract from anything else, but I sure like your backdrop. It sure captures the looks and color of the North Woods. Also, I didn't realize that area had such impressive Northwestern facilities . But That makes sense. The C&NW was quite a line back in the steam days.

Looks good.
