Apartment HO Layout?

Years ago I built in my basement the Gannite and Great Gorge HO layout (which I never finished) but had to throw it out when my kids needed the room for a bedrooms.

Now I am finding myself being forced to move to a one bedroom apartment and once again I would like to build an HO layout.

But living in an apartment that I do not own (as opposed to my own house I have always lived in) concerns me. I don't think I will have alot of room and the thought of moving or throwing out the layout if I have to move out worries me. Can anyone give me some advice?

Pagosa & Southern RR (East Coast Version)

First and foremost, I want to thank Dave Meek for the inspiration. Here is the beginning of my version of the Pagosa & Southern in N scale. But mine will be a modern version in South Florida, Florida East Coast will be the main railroad serving an industrial site.  The following photos is just the beginning. The layout is the same size as Dave's, 1' x 6'. Made from a shelf bought at the big orange box store. Came to the exact size. The frame I made from fine pine with a decorative lip. I am planning to take this layout to my office at work.

Playing with a few things..

I have not posted progress in a while and defiantly did not accomplish my goal for this year. I have had major health issues for going on 8+ months and can barely get to work little own do anything on the layout.  Still not in good shape but the Dr. wants me do do something more than sit & read or play games on the computer.

So.....

December Update for the Colorado Front Range Railroad

Thanks to Dave Bodnar and Geoff Bunza for the arduino decoder and relay control. I show how I redesign the yard using the 10 commandment of model railroad yard design.  Then show how I make a template for the custom curve crossing that needs to be hand laid.

Michael Rose's Breitenbach-Rosenheim RR video of a run-through 12/5/14

Can't decide what scale you want between HO and N?  That was Michael Rose's problem so after switching scales a couple of times he hit upon a great solution - have both scales!  I've already posted a video of his N scale layout so this video is of his HO scale German layout - the Breitenbach-Rosenheim.  When I visited on 12-5-14 he was kind enough to run around a doodlebug (the Germans call it something else) on his layout.  I hope that you enjoy the brief video!

Yard Scenery on the Trenton Subdivision in N scale

I have been able to complete the scenery in the Trenton Yard on my layout.

Not the best picture of the yard but it does give an good overview of the scenery.  I have posted earlier blogs on the steps I have taken to this point.

Progress Update # 3 - Main & Third Level Construction & Electrical Planning

The rough-in of the main and third levels has been completed.  The full size paper design has been glued down on plywood, cuts made for planned scenery features, and risers put in place to raise the levels to their appropriate height. The first video shows what the overall layout will look like to include some final old-school hand-drawn track center adjustments made to some planned bridges near the city of Paradigm (see layout diagram below).

The New TSR rises.......

How time fly's.... In May I started taking down the old TSR. It stands now as an empty room painted in a neutral color, ready for the hew owner of the house. I will post a few pics soon.

On Sept 2 we moved into the new house and on Sept 9th I took the big pile of wood that I had salvaged from the old layout and re-started again. Sorry, no track plan yet, though I do have a vision I am working toward.

Here is my first 90 days of effort, combining new and old wood into the new bench work
