Railroaders' Advice
N Scale Couplers: C'mon guys
One of your advertisers, Con-Cor, has a great spread on couplers. They have a new one for long trains, fixed consists, lower price, etc. Per them, the new ones are great, esp. for me since I 'hand uncouple' anyway.
They mention 5 or 6 major coupler alternatives, although MTL (nee Kadee) has the majority share. We've seen this before: Whether you have to pay Kadee or not (old days), make them alike.
lifespan of a pickup
What is the life expectancy of the small wipers used to pick up current from insulated wheels? I have several geared HO steamers that have all-wheel pick up and their contact points don’t look all that substantial. I am looking for an estimate of time before I’ll have to deal with what looks like a daunting job. I doubt they last forever and am curious if there is a reliable way to prevent/reduce wear (other than not running them).

Only (NOT) in Canada, you say?
Somebody (Rich?) recently mentioned purchasing a Skil 2350 cordless drill. I've been trying to find one in Canada for the last few days, to no avail, and finally decided on Amazon. Well, it appears that the drill can't be shipped to Canada, nor can the B&D DP240, which is a bit smaller.
Has anyone managed to find either of these tools north of the border?

Doodlebug ops : Backwards running?
Dear MRHer's,
Just a quick one. Assuming I have a B'mann HO "Doodlebug" railcar,
is it proto-plauisble to run it "backwards"?
IE
- I start the passenger run from the Home terminal down a branchline "running forward"
- I get to the end of the branch, and have to "return home"

Dust Busting... Cleaning the layout
Hey Everyone...
How do you clean your layout without damaging fragile details like trees and static grass?
I mean, removing the layer of dust that inevitably builds up over time.
Or do you have a magic method of keeping dust off your layout to start with?
- Bill (wishing I had a layout to clean right now)
Help Developing Operating Sessions
I am building a medium size model railroad in HO scale. The layout wraps around the wall in half my basement. The room is about 11’ by 40’. Roughly 20 feet of one long wall is taken up by a three track (soon to be 5 track) staging yard, currently all three tracks are connected and can handle trains from either direction. See the schematic for more detail on the track arrangement.
Using Easy Model Railroad Switch Lists
Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section. I had an op session over the weekend for 6 guys who had never operated on my layout https://sites.google.com/site/mylvrr before, and for a couple of them it was their first op session. Since everyone was new, we didn't use a fast clock, just ran sequential events from the schedule.
