My HO trackplan came from Byron Henderson's site.

How Best to Use Cycle #1 and 4 With No Staging?

As a beginning operator, I've been reading a lot of articles that start Car Card Cycle #1 in staging and end with #4 back in staging.Seeing as trains are usually not originating from a classification  yard.

How do you small to medium layout owners  treat Car Card Cycle #1 when originating your trains in your on the layout classification yards and terminating them there if turns/locals?  Is this prototypically feasible?

Proper use of horns and bells

I have attempted to find a book, article DVD or anything on the proper use of the Bells and horns. By proper use I mean the correct toots and clappers that you should hear at crossings, backing up, moving forward and for every thing else.  Can someone please direct me to the correct informaion?

Mixing up (together) Pick Up and Set Out Cards

Sorry if this is a duplicate-ish post. Just in case my vanished lst version shows up afterall...

Car Card/WB "physical mechanics" when sorting PUs and SOs?

A friend and I are beginning to try some scenarios on our layouts with car cards and waybills. We both found ourselves mixing up set out cards and pick up cards as we worked (mostly due to the lack of a sorting shelf, etc.)

What do you guys do physically to keep them separated? Two separate apron pockets? A binder ring through the decks, etc.?

93-Day Inspections

Looking to add an extra bit of operation into my freelanced shortline by staging "breakdowns" which would take a unit temporarily (or permanently...?) out of service and, also, requiring periodic maintenance for all locomotives in the fleet.  I know the big Class I railroads go by a 93-day inspection rule but I can't seem to find any information about how this works.  Specifically, I would like to know if this applies to all railroads - regionals down to industrials - and, if so, do the&nbsp

Is there some type of train sheet used with Track Warrant's used by the Dispatcher?

In his how-to video series, Joe shows a glimpse into Track Warrant's, but we don't see it from the Dispatcher's side and I was wondering if there is some form or sheet the dispatcher uses to make sure he/she isn't writing conflicting Track Warrant's.  And if so, can someone point me to some examples that would be useful for model railroad's.

Thanks.

Prototypical Goose

Someone asked a few weeks back if it was prototypical for a Galloping Goose to run reverse to get back down the line. With GooseFest coming next month, I found out that one of the guys I work with will be driving a Goose around the loop at the museum.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory Program

I have been playing around with Easy Model Railroad Inventory program by Bob Langer recently.

It also has operations included in the program. I have been using the inventory part of the program to catalog all my rail cars. It seems to work quite well. I have started to update the operations part of the program, but I am not too far into it.

Any one with any experience using this program for operations?

waybill cycles

When using a car card and 4 cycle waybill system would I be correct in thinking not all the waybills are going to be on the same cycle at the same time. For example. If you were to walk around a layout and look at the cycle that each car is currently on would not all be the same? The reason behind the question is if you stop and start sessions would this be an issue or is it a case of look at the waybill and do what it instructs. Am I just over complicating things? I am an ops newbie so any help will be great
