Walthers Scale Test Car

How long has it been since you've seen one of these? Prototypical spottings, anyway...

I have had this in my infamous Box 'O Storage for years. I picked it up at a trainshow for less than $7.00 in kit form. Certainly, these were some older Walthers offerings. There were actually X2F couplers in the kit. Wow !!!

Here are a couple of before and after photos of my "Kitbashed"? DD35 project using the old Athearn Bluebox DD40 as a starting point.

Walthers Superliners: "Normal Plated" vs. Proto

Hi all.  I'm starting to assemble a Coast Starlight consist in HO, and I've started picking up IVb Superliners off of eBay if I see one for the right price.

Can Genesis F7 headlight plugs be removed or turned from vertical to horizontal?

Can the headlight plugs in the Athearn Genesis F7 and other Genesis F-units which have dual headlights in the housing be removed from the body and turned from the vertical to horizontal positions?  I have an F7 A unit which has the headlight housing (plug) with the lights in the vertical position, and would like to turn the lights to the proper horizontal orientation.  Since I'm not sure how these are attached into the headlight opening in the shell, I could use some help before I try to fix it myself.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My third and forth attempt at weathring locos - portuguese models

Hi all.

Long time no posting here.

Just wanted to show you my latest attempts at weathring my locos, while getting back to the hobby (just got divorced, new marriage, ba bla bla, in less than a year...)

All of this was done using just Pan Pastels, oil paints, and the videos form Mike Confalone, on TMTV. Made them both live, on my Youtube channel.

equivalent colours for the Amtrak California Coaster passenger cars

I have a short HO scale Coaster livery commuter train and I'd like to add extra bi-level Bombardier passenger cars. They are not readily available except at high prices online in the US and even rarer here in the UK. I can find equivalent cars from other lines over here and much cheaper. I've found some decals that have sufficient markings for up to four Coaster cars.

Adding Road Number Decals to Pre-painted Rolling Stock

Several years ago, I purchased several factory painted hoppers that came un-numbered; however, the manufacturer supplied the road numbers on water slide decals so you could make a wide variety of unique numbers.

My question is what type of prep work should I do before applying the decals?  Typically when I paint a model to be decaled, I would apply a gloss coat, then the decals.  But does this need to be done with factory finishes?

Weathering a large scale 50' boxcar

The large scale forum that I regularly participate in (largescalecentral) has a yearly contest for 30 days. Spend no more than $30 and complete a project. Some years we get a theme, other years it's what ever we want. This year the challenge was open whatever you want. Rules are simple.

1. Have fun

2. Spend no more than $30, you get 1 'free' bottle of paint, and 1 'free' thing of glue.

3. Anything you have on hand prior to Jan. 1 is considered free.

Handrail stanchions (posts)

I'm working on a model of an early SD9 with SD7 style handrail stanchions.  The model I started with has the later stamped posts so they need to be changed.  I'd prefer metal if possible.  Supposedly, the Smokey Valley stanchions are too short.  I'm open to ideas for making or sourcing the pipe style stanchions or first hand knowledge of the length of the Smokey Valley stanchions.

thanks,

Paul
