Laser cutting HOn30 rolling stock

Working on some laser cut HOn30 passenger coaches in the style of Glyn Valley/Talyllyn. Anyone else laser cutting kits in this scale have some tips on materials and designing for details/durability? Could also use some direction on a source for hook & loop couplers, buffers and maybe some other small details. Thanks!

Not being a pest, or at least not intending to. Do we have an updated time line for the locomotive book.

Metra orders rebuilt SD70MACs

This news story popped up on my Google "Discover" news feed on my phone today:

Sounds pretty interesting. Could be some good modeling opportunites for those who model modern passenger ops!

Adding number board numbers to lifelike proto 2000 gp-9

I want to add a number to the front numberboard of  life-like Proto 2000 gp-9.   The loco came without any number.  I have created the number that I want (white on black) and made it just about the right size.  I will not know for sure until I attach it.  I had assumed that when I took the shell off I could apply it from behind.  However, there is a solid piece of clear plastic where I would want to apply the numberboard from the inside.  I cannot get it out.

updating old athearn blue boxes Engines

Hi,

I'm thinking about fixing up my old athearn blue boxes  sd40-2 and gp60 Norfolk Southern engines.  Adding MU hoses, plows, window shades, and Lighted Ditch lights.   Plus I wanna change out the lights to LED and also DCC them. I have no idea where to look and get the MU hoses, plows and etc.  And good ideas and info would be great.  And what resister should I go after for LED lights?

Thanks

How to Repair a Bachmann Climax

Bachmann has made several versions of the Climax Locomotive in HO scale and On30. They have made a 50 ton 2 truck version and a 70 ton 3 truck version. While these are well detailed locomotives they all suffer from problems with the drive train. The latest versions of these locomotives use metal gears and seem to be fine, the older versions used plastic gearing and, I suspect, that pretty much 100% of them have failed in some fashion.

Adding couplers to an old passenger car kit

I have mentioned these HOn3 passenger car kits a few times around the site. I am ready to add some HOn3 couplers and not sure which way to go, or how to make adding them easier. I figure I can glue them on including gluing the coupler pocket together or I can screw them on.

How would a derailment like this be cleaned up?

Train derailed onto the team track.

Only access to train would be on the flat car side.

Looking for handrails for Atlas S1/S2/S3 or S4

I am looking for Atlas side handrails for the Atlas S1/S2/S3 or S4 to support a kitbashing project that I am working on (Western Maryland Slug 138-T).

I checked ebay, the Atlas spare parts website, and posted to  the groups.io site "hoswap".

Smokey Valley makes a set of hand stanchions but naturally Walthers is out of stock.

Any ideas on where else to look?   I am loath to buy another Atlas loco just to score the handrails.  I purchased a set of Alco handrail stanchions from Precision Scale but they are the wrong type.
