Weight for CV 40' flat car kit

Does anyone have a method or knows of a method for adding weight to the CV 40' flat car kit? It looks like it will turn out to be a nice addition to the roster but the way the kit is I do not see any options for adding weight.

Athearn Genesis Light Boards

Does anyone know what the differences are between the various types of Genesis light boards?

I have a boards with the following markings G63868,  AB914, GJ552A and  GJ551A.

The G63868 and AB914 look the same visually with minor silk screen differences and some of the circuit traces are routed differently.

Googling the various model numbers isn't yielding a whole lot of info.

Can anyone name the kit maker and also the manufacturer of the real prototype?

SP C-30-4 bay caboose bash

I read an article in an old 2009 back issue of N Scale Magazine and decided to give the project a try today.

to build a c-30-4 that is pretty correct, you use the body and center section of the cast frame from a ConCor bay caboose, and then the outer section of the frame containing the steps and bolsters from an Atlas cupola caboose.

To finish it off you replace the railing /ladders and roofwalks with parts from a gold medal detailing kit.

This is what I started with:

Trying to locate 8 axel depressed center flats

Are there any 8 axle (or more, but preferably 8) depressed center flats on the market?  I have a blue box car that I'm going to tackle when some pieces come in, but I might want another one or two more.  I have some heavy loads to move, when I'm running less than serious cargoes.  (Like the crashed spaceship)

Scale Trains Rivet Counter SD 40-2

Scale Trains Rivet Counter SD 40.

My first scale trains model and it is not a smooth runner. Jerks, bucks, hesitates, somethings binding, call it what you will.

Updated lighting in the Kato Daylight Observation car.

Wanted to share a little bit on my recent light upgrade in the Kato Daylight Observation.

I noticed that because of the HUGE light shroud the last 4 seats don’t get illuminated.

And my little n scale family is not visible at all...

i made a table lamp from a piece of clear sprue left over from some plastic window kit. Chucked it in a drill, and used mini files to slowly shape the shade, then to also cut underneath to form the base..
