Locos and rolling stock

Kadee metal wheels question

I purchase some Kadee code 110 33" smooth black freight wheels to replace the stock plastic wheels on some Bachmann (china) cars.  they look a tiny bit smaller the the stock Bachmann wheels.  I installed one axle on a truck installed on a car and put it on a flat surface.  i could not see that it sat off the surface.  the only difference it could see was that the wheel flange on the kadee was a little shorter but over all they look the same.  Is this normal?

Sound in Proto 1000 Alco RS-2

I bought a Proto 1000 Alco RS2 recently and I wish to install sound in it. Has anybody got any good tips for the best possible speakers to use (preferably from Soundtraxx)?

DCC Locomotives (Sound)

I have been an avid DCC (Digitrax) user for almost fifteen years.  I have converted many of  my Athearn, Atlas and Proto 2000 locomotives to DCC and more recently DCC/Sound.  The addition of sound to the layout significantly improves the operating experience. I have a workbench full of locomotives waiting for DCC sound decoders.  When the new locomotives with sound came out I thought that I was dollars ahead by doing my own installation.  I model HO  scale and a DCC decoder install is fairly simple, even a complete hard wire.

Southern Ry. models, especially steam!

Since the subject has come up on the Bachmann thread, I thought I'd start a new thread here and avoid getting too off-topic over there.  Let's talk about buying or building models of Southern Ry. (US, not UK, though that would be interesting too) rolling stock.

I need some help IDing a Loco.

This is a brass loco that I am selling for our club. It is a dc made in Korea. It did not come as a NS. It was painted and decaled this way to keep finger prins off it. Let me know what you think it is. Also if you have an idea of the value let me know. Please over look the dust. I did not realize it was this bad.

Thanks

Alan

What is this? Steam loco detail

I managed to get some scans from medium format negatives, and (as expected) they answered some questions and brought up new ones.  For example, I found this detail on the stack of D&W #24:

1930's rolling stock

Hi All

I'm planning a lay-out (short line/branch line) loosely based somewhere in the new-england region. The most difficult part of the whole is finding out what kind of rolling stock was used in the 1930's. As a non American I find it difficult to find my way in this. There are so much variations that I'm completely lost.

Is there some kind of (online) reference I could use?

Regards,

Rob

Help needed. Life Like N scale FA1/FB1 loco speed matching

Hi all,

I'm in need of some help here. I currently have three life like N scale loco's in their FA1/FB1 configurations. I was running them on some track last night playing around. I'm currently only wired for DC as I'm building the layout. I plan on going DCC when I get all of the track laid and wired.

Engine Wiring Help: N-Scale, Spectrum No. 82153, N&W 6llJ

I was given this engine that someone had taken apart thinking the motor was bad.  I tested the motor and it runs; but, there are two wires in the bundle of 6 black wires that goes from the tender to the engine.  There is a circuit board in between and if you hold the board looking at the non-printed side with the black wires down, the two wires, looking left to right, would be the second and third wires - were does the other end hook to?

It would be great if someone had a schematic diagram for this engine and could send it pdf.
