GLa Trucks

I have two sets of Bowser GLa based hopper cars. (6 in total). These are lettered for Berwind's WV group (white ball). Used on the New River SD of the C&O.

They came with plastic wheels (ugh). I have never likes plastic wheels and have recently instituted a "no plastic wheels" policy on my layout. Meaning I will no longer put a new car on the railroad that uses plastic wheels.  I did this so that this does not get out of control.

1 down – 5 to go (maybe)

A while back I was going through my freight cars in preparation for some house cleaning.  I have way too many kits that will probably never be built (Athearn, Roundhouse, etc).

Anyway – I stumbled upon the six Walthers Cryogenic cars I had purchased when they were released.  I got a chuckle when I saw the sticker price of $11.98.

So I pulled one out and figured I give it a go.  Wanting to learn how to install details I gave this kit a try with air hoses, updated break wheel and chain, cut levers, ladders, and finally stirrups.

This may be old news to some of you, and it should have been obvious to me, but I never even thought about it until today.

KATO N scale 2-8-2 Mikado not running right. Need help please.

Hi all. Well I've finally got to the point that I'm laying down some track on my N scale layout. And with that, I've been using my KATO 2-8-2 Heavy mikado to test the track after soldering it together and make sure everything works. But I've run into a weird problem.

Need ideas for extra tender shell's for HO Scale BLI USRA 2--8-2 Light Mikado's

I have my own model railroad along with belong to a local model railroad Club.  I model 1953 the Club Layout is primarily 1975.  However, there may be opportunities to once in awhile have a 1950s era session on the Club Layout, since most of the structures actually would be appropriate for either era.

How does one install the Coupler for the Pilot of an MTH HO Scale 4-8-2 Mohawk?

I have been working on this for 2 hours and can not get this coupler installed on this MTH HO Scale 4-8-2 Mohawk.  I wanted to install a Kadee #148 but the "whiskers" on it do not work in the way MTH designed the pilot.  it's a rather awful design.   So i'm trying to use the plastic coupler it came with for the pilot but it still wont go in.  Any tips or suggestions?   (Other than buying a DIFFERENT manufactured model of this please!)

Question on Broadway Limited SW7 With and Without Sound Units

I prefer purchasing locomotives with sound already installed because it means there is space already created in the design of the unit for speakers and sound. However, I only intend on using Tsunami decoders in my locomotives and therefore intend on replacing any unit that does not have them.

Does anyone know if the Broadway Limited SW7 units are the same in terms of the space underneath the locomotive shell if it is the same between the with sound and without sound units?  Is it the same actual unit other than not having a sound decoder?

BB 40' boxcars

I recently on impulse picked up a pair of Athearn blue box 40' boxcars and am now wondering what to do with them.

I've thought about knocking out a few window/door openings and making them excursion cars but am curious about any other uses a modern railway would have with a pair of 40' boxcars (possibly modified)
