Query: authority of AMTRAK Police

Mid morning today on I-93 (Southeast Expressway Boston) traffic slowed just before the Milton exit to see what the flashing blue lights were all about.

Nothing unusual about that, except we were on the southbound side, outbound, and heavy traffic at that time is inbound.

As we crawled past, we saw no bodies, no crumpled sheet metal, just a guy in a red Ferrari coupe getting a ticket from an officer in an Amtrak police car.

Why would an AMTRAK police car be stopping and ticketing a vehicle on an interstate highway?

one reason i ask is in mt.carmel jct pa theres a small customer consisting of a small silo a under track auger that recieves a covered hopper or 2 a week and has placarded as explosive. i think the company might be in the mining explosive business. nothing is marked

International Harvester Truck Plant, What Would I Find On The Rails?

Since I don't really have the room to build a large continuous running "dream machine", I'm thinking about a much smaller industrial switching layout that I can build into a corner of a spare room (HO).  I grew up in New Haven, IN, and Dad worked at the International Harvester Plant until he was laid off and the plant shut down (1980'ish).  I was about 9-10 then, but it's always been a lasting memory.  Though, like the plant itself, my memories of it are fading.  It seems to me this would make a perfect switching layout.  Plenty of material

I've been going through my grandfathers stuff my mother saved over the years and found this.

Woodchip Cars

Hello everyone. I have several hopper cars I am going to use for woodchip service, but I need to do some research first, so here are a couple of questions. #1 What are woodchips used for? #2 Do all cars that are converted to woodchip service have the high side extentions, or are some just used as is? Thank you for any info provided.

Holidays and railroads?

How much do various holidays effect the railroads?  Obviously, a lot of freight still needs to move, and critical functions need to be kept up.  But how much is freight traffic reduced?  I'm sure that plenty of industiores are at reduced or no operation on certain holidays?  What other functions slow down or stop on major holidays?

And, how much would major holidays change operational patterns in the past?  1920's is my main focus.

Thanks!
