Scenery and structures
Fanwood station.
Hi all,
I recently purchased a copy of Precision Lasercut Fanwood station that was distributed by Micromark. I started reading the instructions and it looks like a very involved kit, albeit one that produces a great looking model. I was hoping to find some photos that other people have built to supplement the build. I searched a number of sites, but so far have come up empty. All I could find was some photos of the finished model.
Tehachapi scenic modeling
Here's an example of how the scenery crew on Tehachapi deals with variable scaling in each of the 3 dimensions.
1. A mockup of the scene at Rowen was created:
2. Topo maps were consulted to get the prototype contours and elevations. The laminations in the partially competed scenery under the mockup only give a rough idea of these due to some of the foam being laid at an angle to the horizontal:

Old Heljan and Pola buildings
Folks,
I just bought a HUGE cardboard box full of old Heljan/ Pola / Faller buildings for like $20. A LOT of these are European prototypes, you know, the stuff that was available for layouts before Walthers started paving a new path.
I don't think I was really interested in many of them other than a large Mount Vernon Manufacturing that looked a whole lot like Art Curren's interesting creation. I guess I couldn't argue with the price.
Paper flats
Here's a site I just found. http://jeanpierrelarouz.canalblog.com Now, don't get mad at me. LOL It's in French. BUT: There are lot's of flats for paper models. I find the one I want, size it as best I can on screen. Use snipping tool and copy/save in jpg. You can go from there. I realize it's a lot of kid stuff, as "do you want to model Renault vehicles"? But I did find a few items usable. A fence. A few buildings. And what I liked about this site is the fact that there are roofs and the detail is good. Very usable and "free".

woodland Scenics Static King vs Noch Static Grass Applicator
I am about to start scenery. I have one of those static grass applicators that looks like a tea stained, $39 if I remember. I want to up my game. People around here swear by the Noch applicator, but it is expensive. Woodland Scenics has the Static King that looks similar but much less expensive. Does anyone have experience and recommendation on the WS unit.

Little Canada
If you live here, or are coming to Canada next year, have you heard of "Little Canada"?

Container Loading Cranes
Container Cranes
I've been looking thru LOTS of container crane images recently,...specifically HO scale, and specifically railroad car loading ones. I have some specific requirements I am seeking for my two container handling areas, but I thought it might be interesting to see what other models (commercially available, kit-bashed, custom built) might be presented, and the reasons for those preferences.

Stone wall rolling tool
Hi all!
I made a tool for embossing stones in DAS clay.
The tools and stuff needed. DAS clay, an empty sugar dispenser, rolling pin, knife, glue and a good supply of small pebbles.

Period Miniatures Berghoff Brewery Build…
Recently I inherited a couple of locomotives, freight cars and two out of production craftsman kits. Among them was a Period Miniatures Berghoff Brewery kit, that appears to be missing the window glazing.
Does it fit in to the Southern California scene? Does it look like it can produce a car full of beer? No, but it is a brewery and a cool, retro kit, and at 3.5″x6″, it’s tiny.

A split station.
Hi all!
I'm building on my layout again after the summer months.
