Substitute for Micro Engineering Rail Joiners

Our local "N" scale club is committed to Micro Engineering flex track and turnouts. Mainline track is code 70, the balance code 55. All joiners will be soldered.

ME code 55 joiners have become very difficult to source. What other manufacturers rail joiners have users successfully used for Micro Engineering Code 55 and Code 70 rail?

What were the advantages and/or disadvantages over ME joiners?

Thanks

Plastic Rail for Track - will it ever be possible?

For this thread, I would ask that we accept the following premises, ACKNOWLEDGING that there is disagreement over whether battery technology will work powering the locomotives.  For this thread, lets just hold the premise that all the physics issues are resolved and it works.

Cutting gaps in rail to isolate frog

Fast Tracks suggests using a small coping saw, the MRH article with CV ties shows the roto tool with cutoff disc, but the gap is large so must be filled with plastic. Anyone have a suggestion on something in between. Something that makes a big enough gap, but does not need to be filled w ith a chunk of plastic?

DCC loco's

Maybe this question is asked a thousand times before but run DCC equipped loco's on non-DCC lay-outs?

And if so; do they straight from the box?

I have Joe F's "short from hell" ... Help!

You would think I could find an electrical problem on a 2' x 8' DCC layout. I am posting more info below.

Rotary beacon lighting effect

I want those gum ball machine rotary beacons on top of my diesels for my 1970 era layout. Anyone have luck with the detail parts with the bored out beacons? Any recommendation for a CV setting would be appreciated also. Which size and color led looks best? I keep looking at the videos of DCC installs on YouTube and other media, but have not seen any that specifically address putting in a beacon and programming it.

Thanks in advance,

Thomas G

ESU help!

HI all.  I have been doing some ESU Loksound Select installs, mostly the FDL 16 in my P42's and EMD 710 in my EMD locos.  I got the idea to try their latest V4 (the $150 pricey new released decoder) to see if it had any better sounds like the air compressor on the FDL 16 modern than the older select version.  (so far haven't noticed a difference in sounds, but I haven't been able to find a sound modification CV table either).
