Track and electrical/DCC
Droppin' Feeders!
When I was starting out, wading through the muck that is YouTube produced no concrete answer as to how a DCC layout should be wired. Wiring books suggested that I use chunky, stranded wire that just looked way out of place soldered to the rail and speaking with some of the experienced "old timers" I always got the same answer: "What's a DCC?" Seeing that I was not getting consistent answers (and wasn't aware of MRH yet!), I decided to use what I had available, which is almost always the co

Best steam sound for the money?
I'm putting this in DCC since that's where all the best sound systems are these days, as far as I know. If there's a better option, I'd like to hear about it. And of course I know that "best" is a very subjective thing.
In your opinion, what is the best steam sound for the money? Bang (or chuff) for the buck, what would you chose? Or is that the wrong question entirely? Should I simply be asking about the ultimate best quality, and just figure out how to pay for it?
Chuff sound downhill?
Hey guys. Help me please.
I hope i am not showing too much of my ignorance here?
I would like to know if it is possible to "cut off" or do something with the chuff sound when a steam loco is going downgrade?Authentically a loco begins to almost "drift" with some braking applied when going down hill.
It sounds a bit strange to hear my 2-6-0 chuffing all the way !!!
Is there a CV that would give this effect? Or am i stupid?
Sound decoders
Anyone had experience with the following decoders? What is the sound like?
DSD-B280LC and DSD - 090- LC.

If you wanted to buy a turnout instead of making one...
I am beginning the benchwork and shortly thereafter laying the track for my staging area. I have C100 Atlas track laying around, so I think I will use it in staging and on the helix. I know I can scratch build Fast Tracks or CVT turnouts ( I intend to build CVT turnouts for the main deck of the layout), but since it is staging, I was planning on just using RTR turnouts. What manufacturer and code would you recommend? I am leaning towards Peco Code 100, but could do Walthers. I have 9 #8s and 12 #6s.

Singlet Servo DCC Accessory Decoder and Fast Tracks three way turn out
Ok here is a question I am not sure how to do. I have a Fast tracks 3 way turnout that I plan to Tam Valley Depots Singlet servo to control. This product has LED that help with route ID but in a three way turn out you use 2 Singlet to control the turnout. Is there any way to have the LEDs light up or turn green for the route that both set of points are aligned for. I am sure this can be done I am just at a blank on how to do this.

Quad Servo Decoder or SC8
Hi Guys
I plan to drive the turnouts on my new Digitrax DCC layout with servos. I have hooked up a PC running JMRI via a USB Loconet and will be using an Android phone in addition to the DT 402 for control.
I have been researching the Tam Valley Quad Servo Decoder and the Team Digital SC8 unit. My thoughts so far are:
1. The SC8 works out slightly cheaper than the Quad
2. The Quad has the advantage of being able to connect either single or bi-colour LEDs and switches for Fascia control.
Wireless headphones for sound units???
Most, if not all, of us at least know of Lance Mindeim and his work. I enjoy his work where ever I can get it. I'm not sure how many out there know of his blog or follow it but his last two entries are what I would call ah ha moments, Really.

The value of JMRI
These are a handful of posts regarding JMRI; in fact, one in response to my post on dynamically setting CVs for accel/decel based on loco location.
Relevant stats: I have a Digitrax Radio Empire Builder DCC system, an ever-growing collection of Tsunami decoders, and a reasonably new dedicated RR PC.
Moving forward again with our SLIPS and DIAMOND
Finally I've found time to get the paused HO SLIPS and DIAMOND project moving forward again. Yeah!!!
