Depicting multiple eras: examples of layouts that do so (with movie/TV analogies)
Hello all, I've been an on-and-off reader of this magazine and forum for quite a while, but this is my first post. Anyway, there were a few threads a while back that discussed modelling multiple eras (and which seemed to be focused on whether or not to do so) so I thought I'd give an overview of different ways of depicting multiple eras and layouts that do so. On some versions, I've used film titles as illustrative examples. Feel free to offer other examples or methods!

Parts of a new layout
So I decided to make my first post today.
A little background. I lost my layout space a couple years ago due to life and have been without for a couple years now but the bug to build something took over recently. I have a general idea of what i want for a plan but without a space I can't makeup the final plan. I do know what I want in some areas so I decided to build a couple pieces that will become part of the final layout when the opportunity to build it comes along.

Moving out and up
Some folks who've been around the forums here may remember my layout (22 stories up), a HO scale scale, sectionally built layout loosely based on the Central Vermont Railway's Barre Vermont branch.
I had a lot of fun building the layout, and it was a great learning experience for me.
To runaround or not to runaround...
Looking at some one (or two) turnout layouts got me thinking about runarounds. Are they really necessary? I'm not talking about sector plates, etc., but runarounds as part of the main trackplan.
My Dream Layout: St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway
Howdy folks,
Again - radius issue...oppinion?
As I still plan and design I have a question to the community.
My space for the layout (12'x9' aprox.) allows me to design a layout which has curve radius of 29" on secondary and 30-32" radius on the main tracks. The actual design has the main focus on rail fanning, but which size of steamers would you run on such curves as a max.?
My layout is planned to show railroad on the summit of steam! in the 1920's! Thus not all engines are available but there where already behemoth like the 2-10-10-2 AE of the Virginian on the scene!
