Opinions on benchwork shape?
In the never-ending evolution of my train space/shelfie planning, I've gone from a straight shelf to an L to a U-shape.
Anyway, I'm now looking at about 9 feet across the bottom of the U to about 9.5 to 10 feet along each leg. Maximum width is 18 inches. No grades; modern industrial branch like the BNSF Argonne Spur in Lemont, IL or similar.

Not sure if Dream and Design is the best sub forum, but seems to make the most sense.
I have had a number of layouts over my 39 years. Though due to moving across the country and then across the west coast multiple times and job loss and well, reality, I've not had the space I need to build the layout that exists in my head.

My Next Layout
I was planing my next layout to be all abandoned R-O-W ......no finicky track work, no wiring, no DCC issues, no signaling, no DCC/Sound installs.........it`s a cheap way to model a RR with out having a need for skills or a lot of money.......the No-Track system

A Railroad in a container
My wife and I are considering building a new house. Not just any house, but one built out of used shipping containers. As part of the negotiation I am holding out for a complete 40' container as model railroad room.
A container is essentially a 40' x 8' space, roughly 8' high
Double deck or Upper deck without a Helix
Hi All,
Could someone point me in the direction of a layout plan, preferably in HO for a double deck or upper deck that does not have a helix .I have tried searching here with no success.
Thank you in advance.

Red Mountain & Silvertown Railway - feedback wanted!
It's about time I made my new layout plans official. My old layout, The Grimstad Line, is being rebuilt in my model railroad shop, but a new layout is already in it's initial stages of construction in my new home. This is going to be a lengthy post, so please bear with me.
Background :

Early Stage of layout planning
I am posting up a layout plan that is in the early stages of developement. The room I have is in the basement and is currently used to store household stuff, mostly stuff we boxed up and moved from our previous house 1.5 years ago. I have to do some wiring, lighting and sheetrock, along with going through and removing some stuff before I can start building a railroad. In the meantime I am starting some planning, while I sort out and make room.
N Scale Staging Yard - Track Spacing Question
Hi all,
I'm ready to build two end-point staging yards for my (first) N scale shelf layout (see pic for current progress) and had a couple of questions before I start:
I need 11 staging tracks in each yard to support my operating scheme. How wide do you think I need to construct the shelves for the yard?
