Progress on Backwoods Enginehouse

I have been working in this Enginehouse for about three years! It even traveled to South Korea with me.

Pembroke II: The Tie Jig

This week, the posse consisted of just Jim and myself; Julian being stuck down a hole somewhere, and Andrew being off chasing the ghost of the Northern Pacific. Between this and a previous session with Andrew, we have most of the ties laid. The trick to placing ties quickly and accurately is a tie jig, which my daughter helped me build a couple of months ago. It could hardly be simpler, but it saves a lot of faffing with glue and individual sticks of wood. Ties

Atlas ROCO loco's with DCC decoders

I'm thinking of adding DCC decoders to Atlas Roco loco's is that a good idea?  I know the motor stall amp draw is with in the limits of the decoder.  My thought is to use a NCE or TCS decoder.  I may go to a stay alive, but I haven't decided on that wrinkle yet.

No DCC plugs in Kato New P32's

Kato did not put a DCC plug in Engine, they said it would add to much to price. Duu. They now say they are creating a set of instructions to hard weir in decoder. So what's wrong with this story. Another major manufacture did not do market research and put out incomplete engine not ready for prime time.

My solution is easy don't buy them, if enough of us do not buy them maybe they will get the message.

Richlawn RR V2 - Benchwork continues

For some benchwork is boring but I enjoy it - to a point.  There's nothing new or innovative in what I'm doing but I'll continue posting so you can follow along.

Gulf & Western HO Modular Layout NMRA 2013

I was going to put Joe and the MRH booth up first but decided model trains are more important. This Modular Layout caught my eye. There were many at the show.  Lighting, Building Structures, Effective use of Mirrors, along with a great consistent appearance.

Defect Detector?

I've been trying to find a N scale defect detector or ways on how to model one. The problem is, I have no idea where to start and I don't want to buy an expensive defect simulator that is $$$. I also want something that isn't like the Dallas Model Works Defect Detector. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

I got this idea from djstrains on youtube.
