Pembroke II: Turnout Ties

This week, after a short hiatus to visit my family, I'm doing more figuring on how a Canada Atlantic turnout must have looked. "What, can't we just pull some standard drawings from the AREA and use those?" I hear you asking. Well, no, we can't and for that reason, we also can't use the excellent kits from the Proto:87 Stores either.

SAVE MONEY..... MAKE TERMINAL JOINERS

SAVE SOME MONEY, MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOME TERMINAL RAIL LONERS. FOR EVERY PAIR YOU MAKE, YOU WILL SAVE $3.00, DON'T SOUND LIKE MUCH BUT, MULTIPLY THAT BY THE QUANTITY YOU NEED... I SEE LOTS OF$$$$$$. IT'S FAST & EASY...TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT. I DO MINE IN "N" USING CODE 55 RAIL SO IT WILL BE EVEN EASIER FOR THE LARGER SCALES

LAYOUT UPDATE #9b

this video shows tentative places for my industries. the track is not secure as of yet, still doing a bit of tweaking. over all the track is going down as per my drawing. one thing is for sure, no matter how much room you have, you always need more. I don't know why the camera kept going out of focus towards the end. I also mis named Phoenix as STP it actually is SFP Plastics. sorry these old eyes are going out...lol. enjoy the vid & as always your comments, questions & subs are welcome
thanks for watching

Muddy Creek - A Backdrop on the 8th Sub

The scene above my west end staging helix was crying out for some finish work.  So what's happening over there?

Saving Railroad History

Dave:

I feel we are kindred spirits: I, too, have returned to Model RR after a 40 year absence. I, too, have chosen to model a near-by (2 miles) rural junction with intent to be as accurate as possible in preserving this tiny village (max. of 80 people in mid-1930's). I hear your pain re: finding pictures/docuentation re: physical features as well as legal arrangements between roads. Great model: After 7 years of research, I'm on the brink of building. A near-fatal heart attack has prompted me to get on with things. I wish you well in your quest.

Recommendation to those looking for new items

If you are looking for model railroad items, I highly recommend contacting Bryan at Mountain Subdivision Hobbies. Getting started on my new layout, he was most helpful with templates (free) to use; good advice; excellent pricing (well within my budget) and fast service.

Simulation of hot metal in a cast house

My initial blog dates from may 15th and this is a followup showing in a bit more detail how I did it.  I also published it on Yahoo Steel Group, but I prefer MRH which is much more simple to do.

I started off by searching for the right led in the smallest size (3.6x2.8 mm). Result: a led with a light emittance of 900 mcd (=Iv), If = 50 mA max and Uf = 2.1 V, yellow. Manufacturer Dominant, SMD led PLCC2.

The DCC Re-Animator: Episode 1 - Bachmann Action Caboose.

The DCC Re-Animator

The Re-Animator is a campy old school horror movie series.  The DCC Re-Animator is my attempt to bring old-school operating accessories back to relevance by installing DCC and other simple upgrades.  I am hoping that this series will inspire all of us push the boundaries of DCC.  The premise is simple – take an old school “Operating” or “Action” car or accessory and make it work with DCC.  The first edition looks at the Bachmann Action Caboose.
