Using Prolific USB-to-Serial Adapters with PC Software

This article has been prompted by several users of model railroad related software, including JMRI Decoder Pro and my own A-Track application for NCE systems, reporting difficulties in using USB-to-Serial adapters made using Prolific hardware.

RailPro v2 Released by Ring Engineering

RailPro-by-Ring-Engineering-LogoSomehow I missed the announcement, but Ring Engineering has released a second generation of their RailPro product line: Locomotive Module (LM), Handheld Controller (HC) and Power Supply (PWR). I have been trying to keep my eye on this product line for a few years now, and this comes as exciting news.

Pipes & more Pipes...

The last few days have seen me complete the pipe work for the Chemical Transfer Facility that serves the Manufacturing Industry on the L&T Branch.

The main components are all Walthers kits.  There will be two(2) unloading & one (1) loading points for liquid and gas, and solid chemicals via the loading dock.

More to follow shortly as I begin to paint & weather.

A Little Help Please

During the national convention this last week I hosted an operations session for some attendees. Anyway long story short..... Someone managed to run a locomotive off the railroad and onto the concrete floor below. I am putting feelers out to see if anyone out there has an Athearn Genesis F7 shell that they are not using. The locomotive in question that was destroyed was the ATSF F7A #260 L It was/is part of an ABBA consist that I purchased a few years back. Athearn Genesis part number G22025.

Thank you

Research on which DCC system to install

I'm looking at several DCC systems to utilize on a 12 X 23 foot layout. I'm leaning toward CVP products. Anyone here know of a downside to these products? Appreciate your input. Thanks!

Workin' On The Railroad

Turnouts have been delivered and have be temporarily set in place. Have to determine the critical switch for installation so the rest of the trackwork will fall into place. One of the guys from the local club will be over on Tuesday to help with advice on wiring, track laying etc.

Trash and Treasures

ALWAYS SUPPORT YOUR WIFE'S HOBBIES!  You never know when it might be to your benefit. Peggy and I were at a local auction yesterday where she was browsing over some "box lots" of fabric for her part-time business of reselling antique fabric and tablecloths.

Ruphe Radial Railway, Inaugural Run plus some street photos

I've been working on the streets in the city of Ruphe and one of those streets will have a streetcar running over it. I figured it would be a lot easier to lay the tracks first and finish the street around it rather than trying to chisel in the rail afterward. You may laugh at that statement, but when I get into a project I tend to get impatient and frequently end up hitching the horse to the back of the cart!
