Thinking out loud
Often, I sit here in the hotel room with little else to do but watch TV or play on the computer. I come to the MRH forum and post some idea (usually half-baked, at best) which is on my mind at the moment. Sometimes it generates some interesting conversation, sometimes it's ignored, and sometimes I learn something really interesting. More often than not, I come away with some really great ideas that I would never have thought of on my own.
Virtual Railroading...A Brief Introduction
Hello model railroad junkies...yes, you know who you (we) are,
This blog, named "Sitting There...", will be mostly about railroad software. Yes, we are armchair modelers.
I will not be giving reviews of railroad software. This blog will be a thorough discussion of how software programs compare against each other, and what we like or don't like about them.
As I see it, there are four major categories of railroad software:
1. Train simulation programs
2. Layout design programs

Can wait to see this one in it's later stages.
Trains online magazine
Ok Joe,
So when will you be coming out with an online magazine about Trains. The real ones. Seems like a logical step. Something in the same line as "Trains" magazine.
Turnout adventures
Over the past few weeks I tried my hand in scratch building turnouts. After watching a couple of videos and reading articles on hand laid track I decided that it all looked like I could do that too.
Workin' on the railroad - at the cottage
We are fortunate enough to be able to spend a couple of weeks as a family at a cottage near Parry Sound, ON. With that much free time ahead of me, I seized the opportunity for some major catch-up on track laying. Into the car went tie strips and switch kits from Proto 87 Stores, as well as a supply of paints and basic tools.
