Lengthing the Lead

Something had been bugging me lately as I operated my layout and that is the rather short length of my lead track.  I use this lead to move cars from the mainline to the yard, as well as to and from the cement factory. This track was only long enough to accommodate approximately 4 cars plus a locomotive which meant that a lot of running back and forth was needed to complete even the simplest maneuvers. (see track plan for clarification) All of this back and forth artificially lengthened the operating sessions but not in a good way.

Staging and the Monday Night Mail Train

In my January entry I spoke about the trains I wished to run on the Kanunda And Emu Flat railway and what was required on the layout to sustain running those trains. This month I will talk about staging on the K&EFR.

Update on BNML Layout Progress

Here is an update on my progress on the BNML. Morris to St Jean...

This diagram shows the area covered in this update.

All the tricky bits of benchwork seem to be located in this section. The outside corner is complicated by the fact that it crosses the descending ramp to staging, so clearances are tight. And I also built my first super elevated curve. Works good so far!

JL&T Railroad Blog - When you can't find anymore RDG Rolling Stock...

You go out and you make your own...

These are not prototypical, but I really want to build up my Reading Lines rolling stock.  Seeing that I have taken the liberty of letting the RDG live on through and into the Conrail era these will be a newish acquisition.

They are based on a Atlas Trainman ACF 50'6" Box Car.  These are undecorated and I will be painting them, applying decals, weathering & detailing.  There will be four of these boxcars done in different RDG schemes.

IAIS's West End - New automated car forwarding for modern layouts - freeware

Many of us who model modern times, i.e. the era in which prototype crews have worked from computer-generated reports rather than waybills and hand-written switch lists, have long struggled with finding a way to easily deal with car forwarding and operating session setup, while still creating prototypical reports from which we and our crews can work.

A New Project

It's not really new but more of an up-date on the eddy current drive system I've been working on. I finally have a good solid test chassis built to be able to test different motors.

Now before the questions come I'll give two links that'll explain how and what eddy current is.

This one will explain what and how eddy currents work.
