JL&T Railroad Blog - 2nd last Industry for the L&T Branch...

Well we are on the home stretch with structures and the completion of the L&T Branch.

Today I started the second last structure to be placed on the L&T, this structure is based around a small to medium industry and the backend receiving section of the complex.

It is built from the Walthers "Bud's Trucking" - Building Flat kit, it has been modified slightly with the addition of the longer wall section on the right hand side to cater for the truck loading dock.

Getting started... shelf layout plan

Long time lurker joining the fray…. After several years of having the trains packed away, I’ve finally secured a small right of way in a corner of the basement family room. The plan below is for a 12’ x 6’, L-shaped HO scale layout for switching now and potential expansion down the road. As much as I think modeling a prototype road would be great, I’m more interested in getting out of the armchair soon – even if the effort turns out to be a chainsaw. So I’ve created enough of a back-story to get started.

Prototype Sign for Every Model Railroad

This sign was on the side of a modular layout at the San Jack Train show in Feb.  This is a prototype sign from a yard were remote control locos were in use.  Works great with model railroads also.

Cuyahoga River Bridge

I have started work on spanning the 38 inch "gap" across the doorway between the West End (under construction) and the East End of my shelf railroad. Over the weekend, I had an open house to celebrate the "almost completion" of that portion of the layout. Discussions centered on cosmetic improvements to the existing structures and advice on plans for the rest including the bridge work.

Airplane Parts Flat Car

Airplane Parts Flat Cae

To All: A number of years ago I assembled this wood and plastic craftsman kit. This car was used to transport large airplane parts. There were many versions and paint schemes applied to these type of cars, all the way to the present. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout

BQR Implementation Update -- State of the Railway

Layout Overview

Still under construction but close to power-up. Track changes have been complete. This view shows the dual helix -- an inner spiral from the Deseronto yard up. And a second outer helix that spirals down and then across the layout midway to connect to the train elevator on the wall. This view also shows the modular grid construction of the benchwork and the turnaround loop inside the helix.
