Does anyone know if TrainCat are actually operating?

Their web site does not make it clear & I am unable to get to their on-line store.

Part 2: N-scale Engine Project to Create a DCC Ready Santa Fe style 4-8-4 Northern

This is a continuation of my current DCC engine project. The project goal is to merge the looks of the N-scale Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern (Santa Fe style) with the DCC ready guts of an N-scale Con-Cor 4-8-4 GS4 (Rail Baron series). The first part of this project was in the second portion of my Layout Update Mid-May 2015 YouTube video.

Railroad Patch Collection

These used to belong to my Great Grandfather and I am pretty sure most of them were actually from the railroads. I was given these for Christmas and also have a few more in storage. If anyone else has a collection it would be cool if you posted it here. Lets see how many we can get.

10 to start it off.

P&SF - main goal for the layout

When preparing my layout for an op-session some weeks ago, in a flash I could put words on what is my main goal for my layout:

Build a layout that is fun to operate!

Scenery, buildings, weathering, details etc will be a bonus if I ever come around to build that.

When it  comes to operation, I like many things:

My model of Monster Modelworks Feller's Garage

Here is my version of Monster Modelworks Feller's Garage.  I turned mine into a Shell Gas Station with lots of typical detail found at gas stations in the 70's and 80's.  I decided to make my own awning instead of using the one in the kit.  I just like some of my structures looking different from everyone elses.  I added darkened photos behind the clear acetate windows so you can sort of see an interior but not clearly.  When I drive by these structures in my area, the inside of these structures are very dark to almost black.

Recently on the Hitop branch.....

Recent action on my Hitop branch, as PC 7466 leads the Morris Fork mine run upgrade to Morris Fork, WVa, while an RS-1 still in NYC colors shoves loaded hoppers down the scale track in Dickinson yard....

Retarder for Plaster of Paris

Hello All,

I am a retired Chemist who also watches "Americas Test Kitchen".  The answer to the question concerning the use of baking soda versus baking powder is this.  Baking powder has an acid added to baking soda which improves the activity of the baking soda.  So, lemon juice and vinegar are weak acids.  It is the acid added to the baking powder which is doing the trick.  All three additives should do the trick.
