O scale - Building my own flat cars

I show you how I've made my own flat cars using cardstock, styrene and wood

BQR Control Panel -- Finishing Touches

One final touch was to update the yard panel to the same style as the main. This is the strip along the left side that holds the two turntable controls -- the dial and LEDs for the CML TXC1 that operates the Deseronto TT, a simple toggle switch for the Sydenham TT and the lever frame for the Deseronto yard turnouts.

Flipping up the Mooers Junction N Scale Railroad

Hopefully the above picture got your attention! Getting to the age where 'going under the layout' is no longer an option I came up with the solution shown below. After removing rolling stock it takes only a few minutes to flip to vertical, that includes roling out the racks stored under the layout. In updates to follow I will post additional photos of details and progress to my N Scale Mooers Junction Railroad.

Signals, signals, we have SIGNALS!

I've gotten on a binge to install all the semaphore signals, so on the part of the railroad that's railroad east of Roseburg, I now have installed all the semaphores. They don't operate yet, but they do look nice, and I'll need to blend them in with the scenery still. But they're in!

Layout Update: Mid June 2015 - Part 1

The current work area is located in the center of the peninsula on the upper or third level of the layout.  All of the track and turnouts for this area have been installed and it is now ready for the fun part, known as electrical installation.

Re-imagined Rico,CO

C19 346 is being turned on the Rico turntable at the Los Angeles Model Railroad Society's very large HOn3 layout during a TT&TO ops session. Rico has been "re-imagined" to suit the needs to the layout. The roundhouse is scratchbuilt by Andy Hunter from Great Northern Standard plans. The turntable is a highly modified Fleischman N scale model by John Stravino and is controlled by a DCC decoder. LA Roe used Bragdon rocks molds for plaster castings and Woodland Scenics foliage.

Rust-Oleum Track Paint

In the past I used Floquil Tie Brown to paint flex track. This is no longer available but Rust-Oleum just introduced a roof accessory paint called Weathered Wood. It is a perfect match for tie brown, its low cost - $4.77 at Home Depot-, comes in 12 oz size, sticks to flex track and has a fine pigment so does not hide detail.

Type of trees?

What were the trees on the hillside in Tom Patterson's purple weed demo? Name and source?

New town of Haleiwa

I've been moving along and started some basic scenery and inspired to put in some "water" using ideas from others on this forum.
