ATSF BK Ice Deck Update

Finally finished the model except for painting. Hopefully will be able to get that done today. The paper template is of the icing facility area on the LaMesa Model RR Club layout. I need to cut out the layout substrate and then the deck will be the correct height above the rails. Those are 40 and 50' SFRD reefers in the photos.

ATSF Bakersfield Ice Deck Progress

The North deck is nearing completion finally. I needed to "imagineer" the ice block conveyor system on the east end of the deck as I have virtually no information on how the prototype was configured. If anyone has documentation on this and is willing to share, I'd really appreciate it. The deck is made in 4 sections that dovetail together so it can be easily installed and removed if needed. Our dog food cans came in handy as weights to hold down the decks onto birch baseboards while the epoxy setup.

Re-imagined Rico,CO

C19 346 is being turned on the Rico turntable at the Los Angeles Model Railroad Society's very large HOn3 layout during a TT&TO ops session. Rico has been "re-imagined" to suit the needs to the layout. The roundhouse is scratchbuilt by Andy Hunter from Great Northern Standard plans. The turntable is a highly modified Fleischman N scale model by John Stravino and is controlled by a DCC decoder. LA Roe used Bragdon rocks molds for plaster castings and Woodland Scenics foliage.

Rust-Oleum Track Paint

In the past I used Floquil Tie Brown to paint flex track. This is no longer available but Rust-Oleum just introduced a roof accessory paint called Weathered Wood. It is a perfect match for tie brown, its low cost - $4.77 at Home Depot-, comes in 12 oz size, sticks to flex track and has a fine pigment so does not hide detail.
