It's time to light the lights!
(With apologies to Kermit the frog)
Thanks to advice from other members of this forum, I've figured out how I'll be installing the lights on my BVLC layout. I've decided to build a shadow box, using pine timber for support and MDF board as the 'roof' of the layout. It has to be self-contained, as my current house is a rental.
Unsteady Progress, As Per Usual
Having an unfortunate amount of free time, and a layout in my living room instead of halfway across the country, apparently doesn't equate to things being accomplished any faster. Can you believe that?
Horseshoe & Cottonwood Update #4
Finally some trains actually running on the new layout!! Even if it is just a test train.
H&C engine #23 emerges from Tunnel #1 and begins climbing Lubkin Canyon westward towards the Sierra Nevada mountains.
I roughed in the scenery below the bridge to minimize the number of times I need to remove the trestle from here on out.
Weekend Project Part 4: N-scale Kato PA units with Sound Completed
UPDATED 8/16/15: The video below shows two N-Scale Kato PA1 units with sound decoders along with a PB1 unit being tested in a A-B-A consist. The sound decoder, Digitrax SDN144K0a, is the same decoder that was previously installed in the Kato E8A (April 2015) and two F7A units (July 2015). The PB has a non-sound decoder.
Reefers - very large PFE reefers
I started a more extensive work four weeks ago.
My friend asked for building of eight PFE R-70-2 reefers from Sunshine Models, the so-called "Super Giant reefers".
Building the RGS Maverick Canyon Branch in HOn3
This blog will cover the design and construction of a free-lanced branch line connecting with the Rio Grande Southern at Placerville, Colorado. Named after the mining district at its destination, the line follows the scenic Dolores River canyon with dramatic red cliffs 100 rail miles northwest of Ridgway. The HOn3 layout will be portable, and will fit a lot of railroading fun in a small space.
I got a new transformer
I need some help. I started off with a Lionerl Sante Fe El Capitan, and as time went on I added more track. I usually set track on the floor and it takes about 2 rooms. I replaced the small 90 watt transformer with a Lionel KW. Stupid question, do I wire it the same as the smaller one or is it different??? Help, I plan to set the train up this Saturday.

In this century the lighting is now changed three times. Pictures of LEDs are located at the attached link. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.379532282217219.1073741851.234942163342899&type=3
