Horseshoe & Cottonwood Update #5
Quick update from eastern California in 1911:
Interchange - Classification Yard...
So for a little change of pace I have started installing the Interchange Classification Yard. The yard allows me to interchange between the three railroads (well possible four if the D&H gets in too) that will be operating on the layout, The Reading, Conrail & Chessie System.
Tuesday, Day 3, Daylight 2015 NMRA National Convention
Day 3... I've rediscovered that nobody comes to a convention in order to get enough sleep.
Silent Auction is fully up and running after a rough (computer generated) start. Lots of items there, and happily it appears that most of my items now have bids on them. I've got a few out as well... the question being, will I make more than I spend?
Hosted my first NMRA layout tour
I just finished hosting my first NMRA layout tour of my HOn3 PC&N Ry. We had 64 wonderful folks stop by and tour the layout. My thanks to all who took time out of their busy convention schedules to stop in and have a look!
I never imagined how enjoyable it would be to have so many kind people look over my work and to receive so many compliments, I am extremely humbled by this experience and highly recommend it.
Have a great 2015 NMRA Convention.

Retaining Walls
To All: Something that bugs me but probably shouldn't are retaining walls. It seem every model railroad
big or small has to have a retaining wall between a yard and another set of tracks or town. I have
traveled extensively and have yet to see this in the USA. They may be out there, but where?
Adventures and misadventures in car weighting
Needing a break from track laying, I decided it was time to add some weight to some recent purchases. I was inspired by the discussions about adding weight to cars elsewhere on MRH - http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/22784 as an example of recent discussions.
An interesting German Railway Relic
Hey all, been a bit since I've posted stuff, but I wanted to show you guys this little guy. My mom was visiting Germany this past week, and when she returned home, of course there was also an additional cardboard box with souvenirs and gifts for the family. Among my things was something specifically tuned to my railroad interests. An old battery operated railroad lantern from the Deutche-Bahn. After getting it open, I found a ancient corroded 2.5 gold lead-acid battery. How fun!!!
Monday, Day 2, Daylight Express 2015 NMRA National Convention
Day 2 started early for me - I was down at 6:00am to finish off those last 3 Win10 upgrades. We ran into a few technical issues, such as the aforementioned PowerPoint size issue (PowerPoint Mobile also appreciates an Internet connection....). There was also one clinician that had a laptop where he had to pop the back cover and reseat the hard drive before it would boot...
But the Contest Room opened today, so I've been wandering over there every so often:
I am looking for a Thalis motor and his gear system made by MEHANO
