Setting Goals - 21 Weeks / Week 3

Week 2 - 20 weeks remaining

Week 3 - Finishing trackwork

Week 4 - Continue working on Week 3 stuff (eat too much and cycle while the sun is shining!)

Building model trains is, and has been, a lifelong passion.

By definition my hobby is a pastime and not done for income or to please anyone other than myself. That sounds selfish and self centered but really true.

On the other hand I really love to share my efforts with those who understand.  This forum has been that community.

The Where and Why... Part 1

A long journey covering a short distance.

An interest in trains of old and actually getting to travel behind steam locos in New Zealand as a junior (long night trips to Whangarei-North and locals from Penrose to Auckland city on bright Summer days) created a desire to see models doing it too.

Of course coming from a working class family it wasn't easy and when I eventually started work myself, well lets just say 1970's N Scale wasn't quite the bargain operationally and cheap enough for me to continue.

Taking "WHAT'S NEAT" to the next level

Ken Patterson What's Neat - gofundme project

Lets make the "What's neat" show the very best and most informative Model Railroad Educational video show on the planet. World wide reach can make this funding effort work.

Here is how I would like to expand What's Neat ...

Starting to set the scene.

I've finally started to add scenery to my layout (sort of layout, it's only 4'x1'). I still need a few items but I thought I would start with what I have.

The main things I have to add is a large tree behind the old earth mover, and some corn in the corner.

The road will be painted the same colour as the crossing and the front of the yard office still needs blending in.

Rundown warehouse, sort of!

I wanted to have a go at painting brickwork so decided to start a project I have been planning for a while. A few years ago I got hold of some plastic brick sheet and some plastic sliding doors. The idea is to make a back scene out of foam card and clad it with the brick. Adding the doors will allow me to spot cars there.

So I decided to do 1 section to see how it came out. I did this as a rundown part.

N scale figures.

I was asked if I would paint a few N scale figures and I have just finished them. The sculpts are not the best, but once on a layout they will look fine I think.

Unstoppable

So, I'm watching the movie "Unstoppable", and thanks to my time here at MRH, I actually know what everyone is talking about!

Shanty work in progress.

I've added a few tools to my shanty scene plus I've rusted up an old earth mover to park next too the shanty.

The 2 figures I painted earlier are also in their place. Now I just need to work on tying it all together.
