Siskiyou Line dismantling: Best laid plans

I started a bit of dismantling of the trackwork in staging on Siskiyou Line one in late April and early May -- and then life circumstances intervened. I’ve had to put all layout activity on hold for the next several months.

Five Week Construction Sprint

Everyone knows that there is nothing that focuses you on work that needs to be done like a deadline. My deadline was an upcoming neighborhood home and garden tour on which our house was one of the destinations.

Planning for the new Northern New England Scenic

The house isn't sold yet, a new one not yet bought, and I am spending a lot of time traveling from my soon to be former home in NH to my new office in Ohio.  It will probably at least another couple months before I have really fully moved.  But as moments allow, it is time for me to start planning the new layout.  I will be using this post to chronicle the research and planning stage as I consider what "NNEScenic 2" will model, to learn and research modular techniques, to work through planning software choices, and to come up with a plan for the new layout.&nbsp

Shanty build #2

OK I added a bit of weathering to the model to make it look worn and rundown. I used washes and powders to get the effect so far achieved. Next on to the smaller details and then to start the ground work.

My visit to Michael Rose 6-9-17

First, the important part - the yummy!  Peach cake!

Now, the question:  What to do with this building?  Michael said he doesn't want it and is thinking about just throwing it away.  He's going to make a new one with some modifications.

Shanty build part #1

I've started on the build of the Engine crew shanty by Con-Cor. Going for a really worn and rugged look.

The first part is to lay down some base colours with a bit of drybrushing on the roof. I stippled the red colour on then painted the grey to start to show the flaking paint.

Next I will use a brown wash and start to add rust weathering etc.
