Closing down the pit: Out of ore
The mine is out of ore so the tracks are being removed. The town can't survive like the old days so many are moving on. Historically this scene has played out many times.
For me I am moving to a new job so I have to dismantle the layout. New adventures await. A new layout will be built, but exactly where and when is not known.

I failed at my grand LED lighting experiment - UPDATE 8-3-17 - Michael repaired my boards - thank you!
I'm a failure and freely admit it. I thought I could assemble my layout LED lighting boards successfully and was wrong. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with the boards or components - I'm just not talented enough to assemble them reliably.
Iron Horse (the home game)
I was thinking... if somebody did an "Iron Chef" type of show for model railroaders... I would totally watch that!
I mean... I would watch the crap out of that!
Corrimal Colliery and its Incline - a different slant on rails
Hi all,
I model a whole transportation system that is operated probably as prototypically as possible based on extensive research and given the technical impossibility of operating this transport system exactly prototyplcally. But for my transportation system there was no TT/TO, track warrant systems, no fixed signals or complicated train management system. Why?
Google site search has gone away - our replacement is live
Unfortunately, Google has announced that their custom site search product has gone away and is now shut down. We've written a special script that submits a site-specific search to Google itself and opens up a new tab with the search results in your browser.
In a Google search, if you type ... site:model-railroad-hobbyist.com at the end of your search (leave a blank space) then Google will search JUST this website only for your search. That's the trick we're leveraging to make this happen.
A bit of progress.
I've got all the track work sorted out, and the magnets placed. Now I can do hands free switching. A few detail pieces arrived today so terrain planning can begin in earnest.
Cheers.
Neil.
In between - what to do with that "extra" time?
What to do with that in between time - you know... when you are supposedly not working on your layout. Here I sit after dinner with the wife watching TV and she says "what are you doing" and I say "nothing" and she says "what is that wire?" and I say "oh, I'm just twisting some wire together to make a treee armature".
