My Middletown and Unionville Railroad Layout
This is my first post to my first blog so if I screw something up #1, I'm sorry and #2 give me a head's up and I will try not to do it again.

Penn Lake Version 8 (now with track plans)
After spending much time wrestling with some design shortcuts I took 10 years ago, I decided to scrap the current Penn Lake, and start over. My library of Chuck Yungkurth books inspired me to actually model some of the operations I currently represent with staging. And finally, my advancing middle, is no longer compatible with some of the choices I made a decade ago.

Richlawn RR V2 - Sharing the space / my new computer desk
Many of you know that my new 10 ft x 12 ft layout room is actually a multi-purpose room The room also serves as my work office (I'm still fully employed) so I have to be able to do both work and railroading in the same space. I am blessed with a work from home job and demonstrate software over the web. I need little in the way of resources in that I need my laptop computer, a phone, and a small place to write. I currently have a big conventional desk which will have to go (probably to a charity) so here's what I'll be using:

A Little History
I grew up on the west Side of Indianapolis in the mid 70s, which explains my love of Penn Central. It was 1974 when I got a Tyco train set for Christmas and I have been modeling in HO scale ever since (with a couple of breaks here and there).

Thinking out loud
Often, I sit here in the hotel room with little else to do but watch TV or play on the computer. I come to the MRH forum and post some idea (usually half-baked, at best) which is on my mind at the moment. Sometimes it generates some interesting conversation, sometimes it's ignored, and sometimes I learn something really interesting. More often than not, I come away with some really great ideas that I would never have thought of on my own.

Have you ever thought about submitting an article or tip to MRH?
"I'm not a writer." That's exactly what I said when my railroad buddy Scott Perry suggested that I write an article and submit it. But then I thought - "What do I have to lose?" I still don't consider myself a writer, but I do have a number or articles published in MRH.

A crying shame.....
That the reverse running column is overflowing with post full of controversy over the subject matter of the column but the column on such as wonderful thing as the John Allen Centennial which is something that we should all be able to enjoy and appreciate has two whole post, one of them being mine.
Workin' on the railroad - at the cottage
We are fortunate enough to be able to spend a couple of weeks as a family at a cottage near Parry Sound, ON. With that much free time ahead of me, I seized the opportunity for some major catch-up on track laying. Into the car went tie strips and switch kits from Proto 87 Stores, as well as a supply of paints and basic tools.
