A Model Railroad Hobbyist Convention

Here I sit on my front porch reading the posts from my fellow MRH posters thinking "wouldn't it be great to attend a MRH convention and spend time and get to know my fellow MRH buddies?"....and attend clinics by some of the greats (MRH posters)....and get a group photo....and break bread (and other yummy things) together!

Oh well - just a pipe dream. I'll just hope to run into some of my MRH virtual buddies some day.

Building a GE 85 ton steeple cab: Push to the finish

Well summer is coming to an end, nights are dark by 8pm and it is time to get those 85 ton steeple cabs completed. The pantographs are now in after 5 months of waiting. I have put more details on and got one coat of paint on. As you can see, the mechanics have their work cut out for them trying to figure out a pedestal configuration for the pantograph.

Happy Accidents

Have you ever had something that turned out wrong, and then it ended up being more right than you could have imagined?  I had that experience yesterday.  Since the early days of planning my double-decked Tidewater Southern, I had assumed that I would build the Foster Farms Feed Mill that sits just west of Turlock, and in fact, I set about doing just that on this layout.  It's a really cool facility:

MEC and B&M NH Scenic Railway construction started

I managed to get started earlier than expected on the railroad.  It was a small start, but felt great to begin.  I will be journalling the progress here over the coming months.  Today's accomplishments:

- Swapped furniture and rug around to establish boundary between guest bedroom end of room and railroad end of room.  What I could do with a whole room... but 1/2 a room is better than none.  Then cleared everything out of the railroad end to be ready to start.

Richlawn RR V2 - Roll-o-Styrene

Today my styrene arrived on my front porch from Piedmont Plastics.  I'm planning on using Charlie Comstock's method of coving the corners of my layout room using styrene.  I am now the proud owner of two sheets of 2' x 8' x .060 white.  I have about 5 feet above my my layout benchwork and I want to cove it all of the way to the ceiling.  More later!

Animation in 1:87 (HO) & 1:160 (N)

Since several members found the animation of HO & N scale work interesting I've reposted the video from the Ring Engineering thread and a second one.

It Works!

Not presentation quality but you get the idea. Thanks to my wife Peggy for shooting it and putting up with me - LOL! The Greater Nickel Plate lives!
