Ideas for small switching layout? (Decided on design I think)

I am looking for ideas that I could use for a small 2'x5' switching layout. I have that much space in my room and am trying to plan as much as possible to pitch the idea to my parents.

Layout Animation Ideas?

The teacher in charge of model railroad club has an abundance of basic DC motors simillar to the image shown. Does anyone have some ideas on uses for them in relation to railroads? I know there are many creative people here so I thought I would ask.

Drama can be a good thing in model railroad scenery

On another thread of mine http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/24265 Bing commented that the resident of my cabin might need a parachute to wash the window or stove pipe as the cabin sits precariously close to the edge of a 40 foot drop.  Bing has a good point - and the location wasn't an accident (although there might be one if someone gets too close to the edge!

BNML Op Session debrief

Sunday was Ops here on the BNML. This is a brief summary of the day.

Long time MRH Forum Member Rico R. and MRH Lurker Ian L. made their way down to my place for a visit and Ops. Rico and I had been talking about getting together since January and the stars aligned for Sunday. Rico lives about 2 hours away.

Cleveland & Eastern RR - Dec 2015 update

I try to gather recent on going construction progress on my layout in this blog here.

While I was busy with other tasks on the railroad, I managed to get my focus on finishing the first section of the Cleveland & Eastern RR - Elizabeth Oaks.

There are several project waiting to be done. Among these I want to discard the "out-of-the-box" East-Grain Mill and replace the two Cornerstone buildings with one scratch built mill complex.

Photos below show the mock-up building

Colorado Front Range November 2015 update

I have started the process of paining back drops! Clouds seam to be everyone fear factor so I show an easy way to paint clouds that takes it to a simple step by step process that anyone can do. the backdrops are not done yet (more to follow) but this is the first step in painting most backdrops. Also curtains are in as a light block and sound block the room is starting to take on a finished look. Hope you enjoy the video and  hope it will help you to as well.
