Sometimes You're Wrong

Tony Koester starts off Model Railroading from Prototype to Layout with a thought that struck me the first time I read it,

"Use extreme care when drawing a line in the sand that represents a goal, as it may instead become a barrier to even greater progress and knowledge.  Besides, such lines tend to be erased over time, leading on to wonder why such a restriction was created in the first place."

What I didn't realize at the time was how significant this would become for me.

Looking for cranes

I've been searching for some time for a model of a crane in ho scale that matches the attached picture. I have seen the one from Jordan Products, but being a steam driven crane isn't quite what I'm looking for. I had sourced something in the past, but lost my source due to a computer crash and have been pulling my hair out the last two days trying to find this. Anyone know where I can look? Needs to fit the 50s/60s.

Coloring deep water

I am using a wavy type of Lexan for a lakes freighter and Huelett scene. I am modeling the Erie docks in Cleveland Ohio. Any suggestions as to what color of paint I should use on the bottom side of the Lexan? If needed I will use a clear type of "water" treatment on the top surface. Any thoughts?

Bachman HO 44 ton diesel-cracked gears

I have newly purchased (used) HO B'man 44 ton diesels...one is the two motor version and the other is a newer (not DCC ready) single motor.  Both have cracked gears but run "ok".  NWSL p/n 2695-6 is available with wheel/axle replacements for the two motor...NWSL doesn't know if these parts fit the single motor...does anyone on the forum know...?

wood pulp unloading

  1. How would pulp be shipped to a converting paper mill in the 1950's-1960's? I want to set up an unloading point to receive pulp. What would the product look like and how would it have been handled? I'm assuming it would arrive aboard boxcars or maybe even empty-return reefers.

Clamps

Hey guys,

I found this  http://youtu.be/aGY2XYrVFYU  on Railroad Line Forums. Interesting and useful stuff. You can buy it at Model Train Stuff for $19.99.  http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Rite-Way-Magnetic-Clamp-p/rwy-10090.htm

Cheers,

Feedback requested :

Looking for your experience/feedback with EURO RAIL HOBBIES of Langley BC Canada

I am asking because I am having a lukewarm experience so far with them: Namely quasi non-existent contact to my various enquiry.

I order some scenery product (via their website) 3 1/2 weeks before Christmas to be told (by email) after the new year that my order had not be processed and had be canceled because I did not meet their shipping minimum criteria (I think it was $50) It would have been nice to know in a timely manner after I place the order.
