Working Transfer Crane (0 gauge)

I thought this might be of interest - I've built it for my next layout - a small industrial theme, 8' x 4' .
The girder is fabricated from brass, the trolley and hook are machined from brass, and the cable is 0.8mm diameter silver 'snake-chain'.

Replacement for Floquill Driftwood, Walnut, and Pine staining replacements

Does anyone have a substitute for the Floquill products Driftwood, Walnut and Pine Staining.  In the past, I have used these products.  However, my bottles of products have dried out and I need to replenish my stock of paints.  I look forward to your suggestions.

Coloring Rock Formations

I am having difficulty in coming up with a color formula for a rock formation which I created. The color that I desire is more of an orange brown (see picture below). This scene was taken on a vacation to Colorado.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

North of Boston...when could there be electrics

I'm still planning (while arranging for the space...) my late '20's and '30's layout.  How far north would it be reasonable, if decisions were made different, for electrification to reach by that time?  What might be needed to run heavy catenary into Maine?

Using graphite on rails for better electrical conductivity

Having read about using graphite to improve electrical performance for DCC sound-equipped locos, I tried it.  For me, whatever improvement in electrical performance there might be is outweighed by the loss of traction.

For my Bachmann On30 0-4-2 and 0-4-0 locos, they cannot pull more than three properly weighted cars on level track.  Even sharp curves cause the wheels to spin.

My question is has anyone applied graphite to their track and tried to remove it afterwards?

I found this unusual Florida coast themed layout while surfing the net.  It is very well done!  I recommend everyone looking to build a shelf switching layout take a look at this.  There are 48 pages on the build and it is recent.

WHO'S JOHN GALT

Thanks to Bernd, I found out who John Galt was a few months ago. I still haven't read the book. I find Bernd's input both informative and thought provoking. He is right, computers are only a tool and not an end solution. I was told by a manager that we were gonna track power cable with a computer. I pointed out that if it could not be done with a pencil and a big chief tablet, then it could not be done with a computer.

Weekly Photo Fun 1/31 - 2/6

Time to start a new thread for the upcoming week. There are already three posts today on last week's.

Model Railroad from inside the cab!

Bob Chaparro posted a link to this video on his "Model Railroads Of Southern California" Yahoo site.  This is video shot from inside the cab of an HO scale locomotive at a model railroad club in Indio, California that uses a building that is part of the Riverside County Fairgrounds.
