Spray painting in the cold?

I don't have an operating airbrush, and do all of my rolling stock painting using (gasp!) rattle cans. My spray booth for this work looks remarkably similar to my garage. All of my prep work, even the rattle can shaking, takes place in my basement, and the painted models are immediately brought inside after paint application, but the actual painting takes place in the garage. Yes, the basement does get a little hint of spray paint aroma sometimes while the paint dries, but nothing obnoxious.

Making Very Basic DIY Beginning... Wheels....

My young fellow wants us to start making model engines/tracks/etc...

It's not that easy to start.  We're in Australia.  Few if any forums to join here.  Get very few hits on shops and such.

My feeling is that we could start making almost anything and mutate things as we progress.  So false starts isn't really a problem.

And I feel the more we can do ourselves the better.  Even making our own track, our own engines, our own trucks.

Someone needed to start it, let's see this weeks pics!

Missing post?

Someone posted last week asking for advice on putting a Tyco/Mantua kit together.  I responded, and tonight went looking for the topic to read other's responses.  I cannot find it, even searching for my recent posts... it is as if it never existed!  Am I going nuts and imagining this?

Food grade titanium dioxide users?

Does anybody have a real world example of a food company that receives titanium dioxide in shortie covered hoppers?

I've seen tankers, 3-bay covered hoppers and boxcars at plants, but never 2-bay covered hoppers. Thanks!

Rock Mold

Recenting I was making a rock structure using a Woodland Scenics rock mold. I followed all instruction and was using Woodland Scenics Lightweight Hydrocal. When I went to release the mold, the mold split on me. This is the second time a mold has split on me (both molds were different). Woodland Scenics has been above par and has replaced them with no question. My question is; am I doing something wrong or is this just a case of getting a defective mold? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Highliner shell on new Bachmann chassis?

Has anyone tried putting a Highliner F unit shell on a new Bachmann F7 drive? I have an F3 that I painted and detailed for Sacramento Northern and I want to add sound. I've heard good things about the new Bachmann drives with the Soundtraxx decoders, and I've see these units go for less than the cost of a Tsunami! Anyone have any experience with this?

Modelers Tip - Brushy, brushy, brushy! Use an electric toothbrush to speed up your work.

Want to save some time and effort on building your railroad?  As I was using an old "manual" toothbrush with 70% alcohol to clean off the flux from a solder joint I was thinking "There must be a better way".  Later that night as I was brushing my teeth with my new electric toothbrush and looking at my old retired  electric toothbrush a light bulb went on!  My old toothbrush still worked, but didn't have the omph that it used to have but I thought "I bet I could use it to clean flux".

What is in these cars?

Im going to be modeling an industry that receives a lot of covered hoppers, but I dont know what they are receiving.

Here is something I got off of the companies website.  "product offerings include: Formaldehyde-free™ fiber glass building insulation,
commercial roofing membranes and roof insulations, filtration media, and mats and reinforcements."

Another question I have is did they ship out finished products in boxcars?
