Modeling general discussion
Need a new camera--what's a good choice?
I was recently in a car wreck--no injuries, but my car was totalled. I new need a new camera--mine vanished somewhere in the chaos. What are some good economical choices that are good for both model train photos and trainspoting photos? (I hope to have pics suitable for MRH, among other things; I have a couple of one evening projects that I plan to write up.)
Thanks!
Overhead lighting options - types and temperatures
I've recently decided to temporarily suspend work on my layout before I got too far along in order to fix up the mostly unfinished basement space where the layout is located - patch & paint the drywall and install a suspended ceiling (2x2 grid). At this point I'm trying to decide on the type of lighting to use. Initially, I was thinking of using drop-in fluorescent fixtures with twin daylight T8 U-bulbs (6 fixtures), like so:

UV Fading from Fluorescent Lighting
A bit of discussion started on Jim McNab's blog about his layout lighting regarding UV fading from fluorescent lighting. Rather than hijack his blog, I thought I'd start a new topic regarding this.
I'm using fluorescent strips to light my under construction layout. I haven't reached the scenery stage yet and don't even have many cars or locos on the layout, so I haven't worried about this issue. However it is something that I'm concerned about.

Sorry for the rambling catch all title but for those who also have Facebook accounts and have an interest in the above modeling subjects. I have the following Facebook group:

It is not limited to rail modeling. In fact most of the people who have joined so far are armor modelers. If you are into that sort of thing swing on by.

Weekend Photo Fun 12/27-29
I did not see this weekly posting, so I hope this will start it!
Thank you Art Fahie - Bar Mills
It has been a rough year. Very little model railroading. I had a bad bicycle accident earlier in June that broke several bones. And with my medical and my wife’s medical expenses I have had very little to spend on model railroading. And not being able to work on my kits or my railroad as I recovered has been frustrating.
I had wanted to buy George Sellios’ kit, the Jamestown Water Stop. And I wanted Bar Mills new kit, the Popovich Pipes and Fittings. But I could not afford either one.
Anyone here know how to read rail map?
What did you get for Christmas?
Anybody get anything for their layout?
