Deschutes Jct on the BC&SJ

Shadows on the sky suck. Oh well. Nothing much new in this late afternoon lit shot of a pair of BC&SJ "pickles" rolling through Deschutes Jct. on their way toward Pocatello. Normally, they'd be pulling the reefer express but I guess there was motive power juggling going on.

First Post - Juniata & Southern RR in HO scale

Track work and wiring have recently been completed on the J&S.  This is part of Marklesburg Yard in Aitch,PA and the Junction with the Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain RR.  Track is mostly M.E. codes 70 and 55.

Haha, You know if you hadn't said anything we'd all have thought they were just background trees fading into the smog....DaveB

Nice Pickles!

Silicon Valley Free-moN had a groovy show at historic Craneway Pavilion (old Ford Plant) in Richmond, CA at the beginning of the month.  Was a couple weeks ago, but thought I'd share our 70-deg. sunny "winter" weather streaming through the gigantic glass face to provided some lovely light in the afternoon:

Or if you prefer moving pictures:

Always great to see all the wonderful work other MRH forum-istas do.

Happy weekend!

Can't beat that sunlight

Love those crisp shadows.

The shadows on the backscene didn't worry me either.

I think the Marklesburg Yard will be a beauty.

Mocking up a mill

This week I've been putting together a foam core mockup of a mill for my In-ko-pah Railroad:

After I work out the placement of doors and windows, etc, then I'll start building the model. It'll be made out of Sintra PVC board, with corrugated metal applied to the exterior.

Newest addition to my GLC's fleet.

Nice work guys.  My contribution for this week, so far.  An ex Conrail SD45 joins the growing GLC's  fleet.  This is actualy an un-powered Athearn unit that I've had forever.

Marklesburg Yard Switch Stands

Davebr40- Your track work looks great! The overall look of the area is very clean. What really stood out to me was your location of the switch stands. They look to be Caboose Industries with Blue Point cables. I like the idea of the switch stands were they are vs. an electric toggle switch on the fascia. I looked for your blog in search of more info and did not see one… If you have posted your building process and or operation of these stands, please post the link as a Google search came up with nothing. If you have not, I would enjoy reading how your system was built! To all! Great start to the weekend! And keep up the work and photos!

1st weathering attempt

As always some really great work posted up.

This box car I picked up in a box of stuff awhile ago. I just received new powders so I figured I'd give it a whirl. I have dabbled in weathering back in my 1/24 scale days, but that was many moons ago. First time I tried it on HO stuff. Probably overkill? I figured it is that box car that never makes it home. one(HDR).jpg one(HDR).jpg

Switch Stands

WCRC CF7s - Thanks!  No blog yet - I may start one here on MRH.  The above pic was my first posting of the layout online (except for facebook).  I use O scale C.I. ground throws mounted on the fascia, along with some Humpyard Purveyance levers, and they are all connected to the switch throwbars with the choke cables that Humpyard provides.  I like the C.I. ground throws because they are very "railroady", both in appearance and function.  But I don't like how oversize they are (even the N scale ones), so I mount them on the outside.  I will put dummy scale size switch stands on the headblock ties for detail.  Here is another pic.

My contributition for this week

13_066_s.jpg _model_s.jpg                                       On the left is the real building, on the right is the scratch built building I finished this weekend.  The store is still owned by the same family, since it opened in this location in 1952.  The sign is taken from the old sign from a photo on their website.  The dentist sign takes it back to the 1960's, as Dr Ferris was in that building and was my dentist as a boy.  Most painful dentist of my life.  This is a background building and already has a place picked out for it on the club layout where a sidewalk is already in.

Still Raining...

And no bed from GC Laser yet. So I finished up the wheels, tires, frame and suspension.

And a little fun with GIMP:

Who Needs a Bed?

Matt,

I think that truck looks great without a bed. It's an old rust bucket that I've seen hundreds of times sitting out in a field, or waiting for restoration in a driveway.
