Quick paint/sanding question

Had some orange-peel and other imperfections in my final coat of acrylic, used some sandpaper to smooth things out a bit.  Of course the (blue) paint is now slightly more white-ish thanks to the sanding in those areas.  Not bad really, as I am going to put a thinned fade on this, but I would prefer to control the colors myself.

Do I need to carefully respray those areas or will my first coat of gloss hide things?

Protecting Fascia Controls

Over the years I've studied photos of layout fascias to see how folks mounted various control panels, individual controls and other sundry things such as shelves, throttle holders, etc.  In recent times there seems to be considerable effort taken to recess controls, especially those that aren't mounted on larger panels, in order to prevent accidental activation or damage.

On increasing the reader base of MRH

Obviously, if we are here, we are reading the magazine.  But what can we do to increase the readership?

1. My local club just published a line in the monthly minutes to "read MRH magazine".  Apparently, some of the rank and file members were not aware of it.  This became apparent when the president was mentioning my latest article, and some people went "huh?" at the business meeting.  Just because they like trains, doesn't mean they know about it.

2-May 2014 Weekly Photo Fun

It's after 12 noon on Friday here. Therefore I think it's time for another week of photos. I'll start off.

The Curse of the "Flat" Spot

As I finally start getting benchwork and subroadbed installed on the Interim Pennsylvania & Allegheny RR, I find the temptation to place items that do not belong on the layout (like tools not being used)  on the layout overwhelming.  Am I the only one that "suffers" from this?

What type of wall construction for building new 'train' room?

We are having a detached garage built later this year that will include an ~32x28 ft train layout room (no basements around here!).  The exterior walls of the garage will be cinder block (CBS). The train room will have a ductless split heat-pump system for cool/heat.  We are located in Central Florida so efficient AC is very important.

The train room will have three exterior walls and one interior wall (2x4 stud/drywall).  I'm trying to decide what construction method would be best for the inside of the exterior CBS walls.  The options I see are:

Ottawa Model Train Expo

Attended the Ottawa model Train Expo yesterday. Spoke briefly with the guys manning the MRH booth. Fairly decent show, over representation of N and large scale (O and G) as far as layouts went, in my opinion. I model in HO and there were only 2 complete HO layouts.

CNR liveries

I read that the CNR green and yellow paint sceme existed into the time of the CN noodle paint schemes, but I can't find any dates when the green and yellow scheme were last seen. I'm particularly interested to know if any RS3's lasted into 1968 in the yellow and green paint scheme. Any info or guidance in finding out would be much appreciated.
