Modeling general discussion
sources of junk/ odd parts etc..
What are your sources of junk/ odd parts/ interesting flatcar loads etc...Lets give each other a few ideas we havent thought about.
Gears--I go to goodwill and buy junk watches and take the small gears and misc. parts out of them
larger gears--my dvd player died, cracked it open and grabbed a few larger gears that operate the door and disc drive
miscellaneous steel junk--typewriters are great for this kind of stuff

Putting the magic back into the hobby?
Over the last decade or two, there's a growing sense among those who have been in the model railroading hobby for some time that the hobby has lost a lot of it's "magic".
There's also a sense the hobby publishers are just "filling pages" and lack a real strategy for where we need to take the hobby next.
So how can we be a part of the solution? What's missing, and how could we perhaps get it back - or better yet, kindle some fresh new magic?
Crazy hidden staging
This is a video that a fellow member of a German model railroad forum posted. He let a camera train run on his layout. The video is almost 33 minutes long, of this the train spends about 30 minutes running through his humongous hidden staging yard. His helixes use a maximum grade of 0.7% to allow him to run trains of up to 9 m (30 feet) in length. If you watch this you will need patience!
Weekly Photo Fun - May 23rd to May 29th

Stuck in the details?
Anybody else have the problem on when to "move on" or know when "enough is enough" working on your layout? I constantly have that problem especially when working on landscaping or building structures. Recently I've been foresting the hills next to the backdrop and while adding additional layers / details improves the look I feel like I'm "stuck in the details" and should be moving on.

Oops... There really is a prototype for everything
Looks like someone forgot to check their loading gauge...

A little video for the Narrow Gauge fans all scales
A little bit from the 31st Mid-Atlantic Narrow Gauge Meet for those interested. Last weekend at Kimberton, PA.
Lots of fun with a variety of people.
This was all quick stuff shot with the phone camera before and after the public time. I really wanted to get more but didn't have the time away from my booth.

MM vs PS Railroad Tie Brown
Hello all,
Does anyone have experiences with Model Master Railroad Tie Brown versus the now gone Poly Scale version? How does it compare?
Thanks in advance!
