Modeling general discussion
Anyone used/seen Z-Stuff Signals?
I'm interested in the Z-stuff brand optical sensor/signal combined component. Especially HO model 1065 which doesn't turn red to green until the train reaches the other side of the tunnel.
There seems to be only one youtube video and no reviews online (other than on Z-Stuff's site). Anyone here used or at least seen them in use on a layout yet? The attraction seems to be drop in and wire up easy in short order.
Thanks if anyone has opinions, experience (preferably), etc.
Jim

Primer
Hello,
I purchased a plastic kit and I want to paint it. It has a shiny plastic look. My question is, should I paint it with a primer first or just apply a paint without primer?
Thanks.

Flo-stain question
Score - found 2 bottles of driftwood at the train show today. .60$ apiece.... That gives me still 2.5 bottles of flo-stain. But driftwood is so light. The half bottle is a darker color. How well does Flo-stain mix? Also, does it mix with anything other than flo-stain?
We're doing something wrong...girls
I just tonight came home from my buddies house as he was hosting 60 people for a re-union. I worked the train room for him while he was able to circulate and talk to his guests. So we have the layout set up for some heavy duty steam with sound and smoke, and various goodies around. We have Digitrax DT 400 throttles, some easier Digitrax "throttles for dummies" ready to go and I begin running a train around as a crowd teaser.

Memorial day to Labor day Summer Model Forum Challenge
It is that time of year again, time for everyone to share their projects, pictures, and stories for the summer. I guess this is a late start but I really enjoyed the topic for last summer:http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/14064.
Here is a nice quote from Bill Michaels that explains what this forum is about,

Summer Rerun: Free MP3 background sound files for your layout.
***UPDATED 4/1/18 to bump it up to the front.
**** UPDATED 6/10/14 ***** I added an entry with the link to the MRH August 2011 magazine article covering adding background sound to your layout using inexpensive MP3 players. It starts on page 75:

Video from a Train Show in Australia
Hi all,
Some video from a local show here in Perth, Western Australia. It was a busy 3 day show with some 18-20,000 through the doors. I spent most of my time operating on the 1st 2 layouts in the video.
Interlake Vulcanian Railroad
I posted pictures of 2 engines that I had rebuilt in the blog area with a short write up of my experience. I had also posted a picture of the engines on a collectors forum to which I belong. Someone there went absolutely ga-ga over the picture and gave me the following link http://mendotarailmuseum.tripod.com/id29.html. It appears the tender I bought off ebay is quite a collectors item. My plans to strip and repaint this piece of equipment have just permanently gone on hold and it will now end up in a display case.
Display case on wall
I found theses brackets at Rona and decided to attach them to one of my display cases, So far so good.
I'm without layout now (just an inglenook) so I thought it would be nice to get my brass locos out of storage and display them.
