A makeover for Cardigan Junction. A new angle inspired by John Cartwright's famous painting

A few weeks ago I decided to give Cardigan Junction on my 1977 era Soo Line railroad a makeover. The project included replacing the 35 year old metal Woodland Scenic trees with Scenic Express Super trees.

Layout Lighting with LED Tubes to replace T8 florescents

I made the following post in a couple of Yahoo discussion groups and I thought it might be useful here. I was unaware before today that there were Led tubes to directly replace T-8 florescent tubes. Others here might already have known that, but now it looks more like that is what I will do to lower the wattage used and avoid UV radiation from florescent lights. I still have to work out what to use for lower deck lighting and that will probably be some smaller LED floodlights. T-8 sized LED tubes will not fit under the upper deck.

designing a railroad herald

I would like to design some decals for my road but have not had much luck in the past with finding good software to work with. Any ideas about an inexpensive program I could use?

Kynar Wire

This product may be old news to some, but I came across Kynar wire a short while ago and figured that it may have considerable potential for model railroading.  The stuff I have is 30 AWG  and as you can see from the photo it sits neatly between the 38 AWG magnet wire from Ngineeering and decoder wire.

To me the advantage over magnet wire is that it has very good insulation while still very thin and relatively flexible. Anyhoo thought I would share another tool in the arsenal for those tricky wiring jobs.

"Self stick" LED strip lights

I had decided on LED strip lights, but this is a new area for me, so I decided to put the first set where I most need it asap, which is under my benchwork for my first visible level to light the under layout staging.  It is a good starting place for me because color balance and placement are not important to me for the hidden staging. I just needed the light.

I have two questions for those that have used the strip lights.

You certainly don't see many models of this one:

Anyone found any? Or tried it?

prototype info

I just found the Meridian Southern. Being originally from Meridian I would be interested in obtaining all the info I can about them. I'm normally a freelance guy so I have no idea how to find things like rosters and track diagrams/routing, industries served and such. I would like to see if I could develop this into a workable model layout. All help is appreciated.

Tips for Mounting a Bullfrog Turnout Control to 2" Pink Foam

I was thinking of mounting the Bullfrog Turnout control to a small block of plywood with screws for adjustment and then using caulk to mount the plywood to the pink foam. Or is there a better way?
