Life and Death of a Railroad

As I start progress on benchwork for the next layout I thought I’d do a quick write-up on my last layout which was short lived but provided me with experience in some non-traditional layout building techniques.  It was also a great release for some pent up modeling energy after four previous years without a layout.  The layout was built in an apartment basement in about 10 months filling a 17 x 21 feet room.  Simple design methods including shelf brackets were used to expedite construction of an around the wall layout and utilize an existing paper mill diorama I had bui

Platforms in the 1950s

Hi fellow modelers,

I am in the process of assembling the Walthers Station Platform Kit to go with the Union Station.  Did the prototype platforms have any markings such as a line painted on the edge of the platform during the 1950s era?  What was the color of the line and the distance between the platform edge and the line?

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks and regards.

Con-Cor Daylight Cars

I got 6 Con-Cor daylight cars and my dad can't find the right kind of coupler that matches the Bachmann Railfan HO 4449
the passenger cars had long couplers but my dad wants medium length couplers.

Life Like Proto 2000 SD7

I am starting to build an SD7 that's about 10 years old and I found it is missing parts. In particular I am missing most of the hand rails. I tried Walthers but they don't have the parts in stock and no more are being made. I know it's a long shot but does anyone have, or know of someone who still has parts for this engine? I would prefer not to have to scratch build railings but if I can't find the parts that will be my next step.

Cricut - first experience

I received my Cricut two days ago and just had a chance to unpack it and try to get a small project going.  I needed to create a small concrete deck/loading dock for a Rix building I've created.  The deck will fit in the corner area.

Warren's

This is mainly for Utah members...

I was just wondering if anyone knows what happened to Warren's Train Shop at the Union Station in Ogden?

I went there today and all I found was a big, empty room...

Need an O-Gauge Power Pack Quick !!

Help, I need to buy a CHEAP O-Scale (Three-Rail / Lionel style) Power Pack, quick!

Our company has put a train around the company Christmas Tree and the power pack is dead. I'm in the Northern VA area if it matters. I'm hoping to find something quick and CHEAP ($20-40 buck range) that can operate a 3-rail O-scale train around a Christmas Tree for a couple of weeks. The info on the dead pack says 18 Volts AC output (presumably it has a rheostat or something electronic in it to modulate it), so I can't just use one of my HO-scale packs.
