Modeling general discussion

Laser question
I know that if I take an image I have scanned in as a .BMP and send it to my laser through a paint program or even imported into my cad program all I can do is raster burn the image. There is no vector data that can be used. Is there a way that vector data can be extracted from or converted from a .BMP type drawing?
say I scanned in a scratch build drawing posted in Model Railroader magazine. How can I get the vector data needed to cut the material to make the structure?

Editing your photos?
Recently... actually for quite along time however recently for simple folk like me and many other hobbyists, photo editing has become more common. Obviously programs like Photoshop along with the fantastic tutorials available to watch for free via YouTube or the like make this much more accessible for a lot of people.
Bachmann E-Z App trains can move to Christmas music
Bachmann just posted this on their Youtube page this morning. The new Bachmann E-Z App trains have an app update that enables them to move and flash their lights to a collection of Christmas songs.

Why... Same models from multiple companies?
I'm just wondering why all these manufacturers make the same items? Everyone makes a Railbox, a 40' box car, a GP9, or god forbid another stinking F unit. There are hundreds of interesting and mainstream items that could be produced and are not...
Just interested to hear oone's thoughts and spark conversation. What can be done to spark more manufacturing diversity. Thanks and have a great day.

MODERATOR NOTE: Added a more descriptive title. The super-short title was too vague.
What do you SEE when you look at a model railroad?
What do you see when you look at a model railroad? Where does your attention go?
Different scale model railroads bring, at least to me, different things to the forefront. When I look at N-scale layouts, I see trains rather than locomotives and cars, loaded flats and cabeese unless I’m really close, or something REALLY jumps out at me. I see towns more than I see buildings—once again, unless something jumps out at me by being very interesting, or my attention is drawn to it by the action on the layout.
Pulp mills, A video field trip
Found this Youtube video field trip and thought I would pass it on. Since Pulp mills are a good RR customer and offer a lot operational opportunities to model there may be some who might want to understand the basic operations. Be warned though it's a little lacking in video/sound quality

Any modelers around northeast Tennessee???
Hi I was just curious if there were any modelers in my area, I'm just south of Johnson City Tennessee, any other modelers out there around me?

Model of my own prototype
I wanted to show you guys a little project I'm working on! For my 17th birthday my grandparents got me the 1941 Chevrolet pickup you see below (I'm 18 now). It's sort of my other passion along with model railroading. Anyway I decide it would be neat to make a model of my own truck, so I've bought an ho classic metal works 41 Chevy that I'm going to repaint and detail like my own! Hope it turns out good!

Bending Structural Styrene Channels
I'm getting ready to bend some .060" styrene channel. I'm looking for a 45 degree bend. I've watched a few videos on using various heat sources to make the bend but all have dealt with rod or sheets and not structural shapes. I'm worried about losing the shape itself. For example, I have some C-beams and the bend will be towards the sides forming the C. I could free bend it. Some people use a small metal rod to bend it over and with the warm styrene, I don't want the rod to crush the sides forming the C.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
