Model Railroad Hot Spots?

When reading thorough articles in the model railroad press I always enjoy the little bios that accompany the articles.  What has started to surprise me are some of the commonalities of location.  I've seen a lot of model railroads in the Kansas City area.  There also seems to be a lot in SE Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.

Is is just me or are there some "hot spots" of model railroad activity?  If so, what are some other areas?  Anyone have theories why?

Bachman 0-6-0 tank engine

This is a Bachmann Spectrum steam locomotive. I need such a locomotive to work at my power plant. Does anyone have one (any railroad) in good condition that they would be willing to sell or trade to me?

Also, if you have experience with this model, how well does it perform. Does it have DCC? Does it have sound?

Thanks,

Jim

The end of the beginning.

I should say this is the end of the beginning - part 1, as I'm approaching my layout build by sectional builds (similar to TOMA). You can reference the track plan belowt, I am tackling the top section first which is just over 14 feet x 2 feet. The "benchwork" is in, mounted with 2 sheets of 2 inch foam, backdrop is in place and track is weathered and wired up.

Modeling 1960’s vs 1970’s - thoughts?

In the past 30 years I’ve followed the hobby, the most popular eras seemed to be the transition era (by a wide margin) followed by 90’s to today.  To me it seems that more and more people are modeling the 70’s and 80’s, but I don’t see many layouts based in the mid or late 60’s.

please ID the mfr of two HO wrecking cranes

Recently visiting a nearby model railroad club, I saw these two models of heavy-duty wrecking cranes. The models are probably more than 5 years old (maybe much more.) No one there could identify the manufacturers.

I do know these are not the Gould/Tichy 120-ton models.

need some options for securing layout setup/plywood

ok so about a year ago i built a small n-scale layout on a 2x4 sheet of mdf that i got from home-depot it was in the 12$ bin lol. anyhow i live in a small 370 square foot studio apartment and right now the layout sits in the middle of my apartment on top of my cheap 100$ walmart dresser

aside from screwing the plywood into the top of the dresser what other options do i have to secure the layout or at least prevent it from sliding around so easily if i happen to bump into it?

Show me your modern'ish lumber mills.....please

Getting ready to layout my mill scene and am in need of a little motivation.  This will fill an approx 2'x12'  area at the end of a branch line.   I would also be interested to hear what your cars in/out besides empties in and lumber out.

I have a good idea of what I want, just seeing what others may have done

Thanks

Steve
