Modeling general discussion

From the DOH! files. OOPS!

OK, this is one from the DOH! files.  When I started my "last" layout about 10 years ago, I began with the major town switching area that was in a U shape at one end of the layout room. This was no chainsaw project, it was about my 6th layout, and I was going to do it right. Well, I planned and planned, started to build, superelevated mainline curves, solid scenery, detailed buildings, great trackwork and detailed roads. Ah the roads.

Santa Fe Dining Car Numbers

Right now I'm working on an old Con-Cor streamline dining car, I've already got the Santa Fe on the letterboard, but I need to know the number series of the PS streamlined dining cars, assuming Santa Fe used PS lightweights as opposed to the usual Budd cars that were found on the Chief and Super Chief. Anyone got that information?

I have to open about this. . .

In the past, I have scoffed at the following in model railroading:

1)  3 rail O gauge, especially running at 200 scale mph and hitting those small radius curves and almost derailing.

2)  N trak modules.  I just have a hard time with the 3 main line tracks each separated by about 200 scale feet.

3)  Circus trains.

Narragansett Bay Railway & Navigation Company

Hi,

Below is a bit of video I shot last weekend at the trainshow in Springfield.  This layout is very well done, lots of great modelling and operates very nicely.  Its an On30 modular layout set in New England....

CNJ Bronx Terminal Video

Its been quite a while since I posted anything on the layout, so I thought it was time for some new video.  This past weekend I shot some video of the layout running.  Have not done much work on it since the summer, but am anxious to get back to the project soon!

How Many P87 modellers out there?

 Hello All. New guy here.

My name is Ian. I've been a subscriber to MRH since day 1 but am just getting around to partaking of the forums. I've modelled in all kinds of scales in my time from T to Gn15. But right now my current layout building efforts are centred on H0 scale with my 7 day layout which you can read about at http://7daymodelrailroad.blogspot.com/ and a new P87 project as well http://protocrastinator.blogspot.com/

Yo whats up? Monsterrailroad here!

Yo whats up this is Big al just here to say HEY!!  I am going to make future periodic passes thru here and see what is up. I know a lot of you out there know who I am and all but I still wanted to introduce myself.  I am Al Mayo I live in Norwich, Ct.  I do a lot of HOW TO videos of weathering and everything model railroading related.  I do a lot fo work on Youtube.  I have the most fun making videos and using my videos sort of like forum topics to be discussed.  I am sort of the Bad boy of model railroading aka the Tupac of model trains.

Distributed Power Units - New modeling opportunities. . .

Union Pacific is currently running a 3.5 mile long train from Texas to Long Beach, CA.  This is an experiment being conducted to test how well distibuted power units will work with these long trains.  This presents new modeling opportunities, and challenges.  I foresee "speed matching" becoming more important if we are running a couple of engines up front and one in the rear.

Spray booths and charcol filters

OK, I pooled the Christmas money and took the plunge to get a spray booth for the airbrush.  The unit I choose has both a particle filter and charcoal filter.  Now if the unit is sealed well and is venting to the outside why the charcoal filter? I would think that the additional filtering that decreases the air flow would cause more harm than good.  There is a noticeable difference in air flow without the charcoal filter.  I haven't tried spraying in yet to give it a smell test and thought I'd see what everyone else is doing first.

Billy

I started out many years ago with Athearn trains, unfortunatly Athearn blue box (Athearn BB) has fallen to a by gone product. recently Athearn has discontinued all Blue box production. my sugestion to you is hang on to them, run them till there axels fall off, and buy more, and do the same again. I currently still buy all Athear BB, I can find, there are easy to build, dont look all that bad, I change couplers to kadee's, and put metal wheels under them, Still have about a 100 or so to build, so have fun

Ron
